The decision had been an obvious one, as much as he disliked it. Sam was much better off in the Compound with the weather like it was at night, and with Veronica being fine with her sleeping there, there was little reason not to go along with it. Still, the hut was strangely quiet without Sam around. He'd just dropped her off, and she seemed happy ( Read more... )

It was too hot to get much of anything done, and even the onset of evening hadn't brought much relief. Eventually, Pam had figured that overheating at Jim's was better than overheating alone in her own hut, and so she headed over, not seeing much reason to be hesitant about doing so anymore. Jim hadn't been expecting anyone to come around, but that didn't meant he was almost grateful for some break in the boredom. Getting up out of bed and pulling his t-shirt away from his skin - how was he sweaty already? - he opened up to see who was outside.

"Oh, hey, Pam," he greeted, surprised to see her, but nevertheless pleased. Opening the door a little more, he leaned against the doorframe, grinning at her. "What's up?"

"The temperature," Pam quipped easily, and by the tone of her voice, it was something she wasn't particularly pleased about. Even so, she had to grin a little in return at the sight of him. It would've been difficult not to. "If you're busy, I can go. I just thought it might be better to suffer with someone else than by myself."

And maybe the fact that it was an excuse to hang out with him had helped. That wasn't necessarily something she needed to go telling him. That she was there probably said enough, anyway.

Jim could've pointed out that being around people probably made things hotter, but he decided against it. Instead, he leaned forward to kiss her lightly before stepping aside to let her in.

"Come on in," he said. To be honest, he was already grateful for the company.
