It'd been a long time since Jim had slept so well. Even as he felt himself stirring awake, he felt he was nearly completely relaxed, and a part of him knew it wasn't just because Pam was curled up against him. It was enough that he didn't want to wake up, and fought it until he couldn't any longer. Squinting against the light coming into the room, ( Read more... )

Pam hadn't been asleep enough to protest being woken up, despite how comfortable she felt there in bed, and she stirred slightly, eventually opening her eyes to look at him. If he was waking her up, it had to be something pretty important, she figured.

"What is - oh, my god," she said, taking only a moment to figure out what had happened. This wasn't the bed they'd gone to sleep in; that was certainly obvious, and accounted for how nice it had felt when she'd been waking up. She was still half-asleep, but something like this was enough to have her quickly becoming more alert. "Where did this come from?"

Whatever had brought about the change, she certainly wasn't complaining. The standard beds on the island didn't feel half as good as this, and she couldn't quite bring herself to be suspicious of a bed this comfortable.

"I don't know," he admitted, as he eased himself up into a sitting position. It was hard not to be confused, as weird as a lot of things he'd seen on the island was. He only then noticed the little note attached to the bed frame, and he pulled it off its string so he could open it up. Things quickly made sense after that.

"So this is happening again this year," he realized, shaking his head and looking undoubtedly pleased. He certainly wasn't going to complain. Holding it out for her to see, he said, "It's my gift for the year. Remember how I told you things just randomly appear for people around this time?"

He definitely was liking this year's thing for him. The old bed was alright, but this was definitely above and beyond its comfort.

"Right, yeah," she replied, rubbing her eyes a little as she looked at the card with his name on it. It didn't make much sense, but little around here did, and especially with something like this, it was probably best just to take it in stride. As long as the bed didn't have some evil secret agenda -- which she wouldn't have put past this place, but that was beside the point -- she certainly wasn't complaining. "A bed like this, though? God, someone out there must like you."

Idly, she wondered what else would be showing up, but for the moment, she didn't really care. Just having the bed around was more than nice enough for the time being, and, really, it was a gift that benefitted the both of them, with the amount of time she spent there.

"I'm definitely not complaining," he said, looking down at what they were laying on, again. It was then he noticed the small remote at the end of the bed, nearly about to fall off it from all the movement. Curious, he reached over to grab it.

"...Wow. Looks like this is more than just a bed," he said, as he clicked a button. Almost immediately, the thing began to vibrate softly underneath them. "It's got heat, too."

He couldn't even imagine how much this thing might've run in price back home. He was certainly not complaining.
