Jim had to admit, waking up to find the island didn't seem like it was going to do anything overtly strange - weird decorations aside - was a relief. It meant he didn't need to worry about something happening where Sam couldn't be taken cared of, and, honestly, it meant he could spend a pretty normal and quiet day with Pam ( Read more... )

After having heard plenty of horror stories about previous years, the decorations Pam had woken up to were definitely surprising, but certainly not unwelcome. She'd really only been up just long enough to get a look at everything, and throw on a pair of jeans under the t-shirt she'd slept in, when she was interrupted by a knock on the door. That it was Jim standing there when she opened it wasn't too surprising, but she grinned at the sight of him anyway, and even wider when she saw Sam with him, too.

"Hey, guys," she said, and stepped in to give Jim a quick kiss before moving aside, holding the door open for the two of them. "Come on in. And - these are beautiful, thank you."

Jim went inside before answering, turning to face her and still holding the flowers he'd brought. He'd hand them over properly when she came over.

"Sam's idea entirely," he assured her, biting back a grin. Looking at the little girl who was still holding his hand, he asked, "Don't you have something to say, Sam? Happy...?"

"Happy 'Tine!" she exclaimed, obviously catching on what he was trying to get her to say. It was close enough that Jim could only laugh.

"What she said," he said, looking back up at Pam again.

Pam bit back a laugh of her own, bending down to scoop Sam up into her arms and pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Well, thank you, too," she said, then crossed to Jim to take the flowers he was holding out. "I just wish I had something to put these in. Maybe I'll check at the Compound later, see if there's something I can borrow for a while."

It was weird to think that already this was the most anyone had done for her on Valentine's Day in years. She couldn't say she was surprised, of course, but the thought was kind of an odd one all the same.

"We were just heading up there to get some breakfast," he said, watching Sam hug Pam's neck as she settled in her arms. "I was wondering if you wanted to come join us."

With the day being what it was, he couldn't really think of anything better but to spend it with the two of them. Strange as the whole situation was, Jim found himself thinking more and more of them as an actual family again. He wasn't sure what to think about it, but he didn't think it was a bad thing, at least.
