Absolutely box-stock Bug. I was "bracket racing", and knew better how to drive than my opponents. };-)

The Bug would eat them alive off the line; digging in and going while they sat there spinning and showboating (like fools!).

Bugs (back then) were nothing if not consistant. (They certainly weren't fast---) }|-/

Some early Bug owners even outfitted their overgrown lawn mower-engined rides with rope pull-starters, just to freak out the non-Bug folks--- *hehehe!!!*

The other bad thing about original Bugs was that you were sitting directly behind (with your legs under) the gas tank...

1969 Chevy Impala convertible, black top over yellow with black interior. You only forgot to put a beach towel in the seat once, if you left the top down in the summer. ;D

My second car was a 1971 VW bug convertible - baby blue. With an air conditioner.

Both cars were picked out by my mother. Luckily, the following year (after I blew the engine in the bug - slow oil leak that never got found and fixed despite numerous attempts), I got to pick out my '72 LTD, two-door. Ol' Blue was sweet!
