Doing the right thing?

The other day Apple announced that they were dropping the price of the iPhone. I felt like the biggest loser. Along with other things happening this week. Things were pretty low. They announced they're giving us early adopters a rebate, so I feel better about that--but just that ( Read more... )

Bah, the rebate is rather absurd. Everyone knows that when you buy a new piece of hardware or software that the price that it is released at is not the same as the price it will be in 3 months or 6 months or what have you.

This is not new. I mean, you shouldn't feel like a loser, you bought the phone because you wanted to have a cool, new piece of technology, so you had to pay a premium price. It only makes sense that they would now lower the price for those who were less die-hard about such things, to a price that might entice new customers who previously couldn't afford/wouldn't pay that price.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but is not the rebate only for those who purchased the phone within the last 2 weeks (of the announcement of the price reduction)?

Well a 30% price drop in 2 months is quite drastic and unprecedented. Usually prices don't drop for 6-8 months and by marginal rates. What happened is that the marketing team realized that there was an imaginary price barrier at $399 and that their sales were slumping because the phone was over $400 ( ... )
