BayCon 2016 is happening, and I will again be there!  With the usual “schedules change” caveat, I’m doing three panels this year:
  • Marketing Ghettos -  Just what is the difference between Dark Fantasy and Horror Thriller? Modern Fantasy vs. Alternate History? - Saturday May 28, 04:00 PM to 05:30 PM, Collaborate 2 Room (with Jay Hartlove and Heather Rose Jones)
  • Fantasy Tropes: A Writing Tool or a Story Crutch? - Tired of princesses and dragons and swarming hordes overrunning fantasy novels? What about the questing orphan turning from farmer to prince? The internet contains a lot of rants against such tropes, but are tropes really that bad? What happens to a fantasy story that tries to avoid every trope? Is such a story a revolutionary or unmarketable? Is it even doable? Panelists discuss the use and avoidance of tropes in developing story lines. - Sunday May 29 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, Convene Room (with Ms. Jennifer L. Carson, M. Todd Gallowglas, Joe King, and Mark Gelineau)
  • So You’re Ready to Publish - Do you Self-Publish or Traditional Publish? Get an agent or try to go it alone? - Monday May 30 01:00 PM to 02:30 PM, Connect 1 Room [I’ve never been to this hotel. I do so hope there’s a Connect 4 Room] (with J. L. Doty, Teresa Edgerton, and Lillian Csernica)

The full schedule lets you see the full grid of what’s happening when, or click through to your favorite speaker and see what panels they’re on.

I hope to see you there!
