I hate being a medical laboratory student.

You see the student status is something of a shield, it protects you if you so happen to screw up.  Your training, you don't know better and can't be blamed.  Only the non-students around the lab know this just as well as anyone and will attempt to place the crosshairs on the students if anything goes wrong ( Read more... )

Do you know what makes non carbonated items foam when you shake them?  Glucose, sugar essentially.  It foams when disturbed.

It's the same reason your urine foams.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. 

It never ceases to amaze me, how I manage to stay so pale in a place that is often referred to as "the valley of the sun".

My friend Leo taps me on the shoulder while I'm mixing random antigen / antibody combinations together just to see what will happen.  "I got you a caramel moca latte from Starbucks, man" he says.  Sometimes city life isn't so bad.

I'm in an unabatebly chipper mood right now, for a very silly reason.  I just got my teeth cleaned for the first time in roughly a decade.  Not because it's free, rather because my teeth are so jacked up it actually prevents me from getting deployed, today was the first appointment in a long series of painful surgeries.

Wearing a new uniform today made me feel no small amount of pride in what I'm doing, this thing was pressed to perfection and starched so heavily that it stayed that way, the clean cut look of a neatly pressed uniform actually does seem to inspire a lot more respect.  It's the difference between wearing a 3 piece suit and a tuxedo t-shirt ( Read more... )

The front desk is an interesting place here at the hospital laboratory whenever a pretty girl comes around, suddenly coworkers and friends rise against eachother in a struggle for the folder which means you get to draw said girls blood ( Read more... )
