Eh, you could make a list for almost any year. I'm not sold...

That being said, I'm sure there will be lots of great music this year!

2001 proved that the 1's were doomed. There were a couple decent records (White Blood Cells and that Strokes album that people seemed to like) but I'd venture to say 1981 kicked 79's ass and 91 kicked 89's ass.

Venture to prove it with the hard facts! list 'em!

And to make it more difficult you can't use Nevermind.

1981:

Prince - Controversy
Rush - Moving Pictures
Human League - Dare
Gun Club - Fire of Love
Kraftwerk - Computer World
OMD - Architecture & Morality
Go-Go's - Beauty and the Beat
Journey - Escape
Psychadelic Furs - Talk Talk Talk

I'm not going to narrow those down to 5

1991:

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory
Guns 'n' Roses - Use Your Illusion I & II
Slint - Spiderland
The Jesus Lizard - Goat
Pearl Jam - Ten

You let me add Nevermind, and it's a no-contest

Well, it may not be an ass-kicking, but how can you fuck with 1991?

I could probably come up with a compelling list of every year from 1978-1983 that would look tough to beat.
