I haven't posted for such a long time. Partly because i have been struggling with my own life so much this past few menoths, and partly I just got tired of saying the same things over and over again for the past 3 years about the economy ( Read more... )

Sadly, you have more faith in the American people than I do.

And in Obama, for that matter.

I will, of course, be voting democrat but not with much hope.

I hope your own personal housing crisis is working out OK.

Some people may have had the illusion that they were better off, becuase they had money in their pocket. But that illusion is really the illusion of someone who has just received a new credit card, and can now go out and buy things that they couldn't before. In real terms,, they are actually worse off, because they are now also in debt to the modern corporate version of the local loan shark. These loan sharks won't break your kneecaps like ol' Tony and Guido used to do. They will just take your home your car and anything else material that you hold dear, and leave you out, penniless, on the street.

You know, this is a very good point I hadn't thought of before. I mean I realize that folks are getting in debt with a different kind of loan shark, but never the reason that they have by and large been able to convince themselves that they are economically safe and comfortable. Of course they can buy the shit the want, they have Visa.
