I've been reading a lot lately about the protests at meetings where congressional leaders speak and discuss the current issues around health care reform, sometimes to the point that the discussion can't continue because people are 'protetsting' so loudly nobody can hear anything. Right on. I think this is a pretty good assessment of the "protesting" situation.

It's a terrible shame that people use misinformation incite anger and violence in others to serve their own ends. Do they not care that they are actively creating the kind of environment that leads to riots and assassinations, that they are spreading blatant falsehoods, that they are just generally making the world a little bit worse? How do they tell themselves these things are okay?

At last report, health insurance spending in the United States tallied up to 17% of the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). That not inconsiderable figure is nearly one-fifth of all the spending in the overall economy. $2.4 trillion was spent on health matters alone. Forecasters say that if nothing is done to amend the way our health care system does business, that already extravagant number will be $4.3 trillion in 2016! With respect to health care delivery, consider these comparative GDP figures: Switzerland, 10.9%; Germany, 10.7%; Canada, 9.7%; and France, 9.5%.
