Regarding the above suggestion, before you do this, let's say you have the old cans of paint and varnish in an unventilated space, let's say your closet, before you take them out, put a damp cloth on your face, get in the closet, shut the door, and breathe deeply for about ten minutes...and then...lay on your couch and watch Badminton on the Olympics for four hours.
