I personally love this one, because it gives us the opportunity to talk about ostracism (your point about lashon hara, above) and rehabilitation/reacceptance into the community. Bring in the discussion of Miriam and her "affliction," and perhaps how we don't just judge the parshiyot based upon what we find on the surface - on the skin.
