I get it, you parent's don't like pets, which is why they will have to take care of it for the majority of they year. Interesting.

Hate to be breaking this to you, but you have buchley's chance of it still being there next time you come back. You parents might try and convince you that they kept it by buying another older one and pretending that it's the same, one.
