Fake Vulcan

Before anyone says it, yes, I am aware I'm weird.
Anyway...
Someone began this thread or group or whatever it's technically called, titled "Vulcan Pick Up Lines".
Curious what this meant, I looked and read a few. The purported vulcan posted the line,

"I understand that the most powerful minerals are also generally the most aesthetically pleasing. If ( Read more... )

Well, that and the fact that, when it comes to strong emotions like "picking up" a member of the opposite sex, Vulcans kinda go crazy and are more likely to kill their best friend than stand around making false rhetorical statements at one another.

Outdorked you! And you were so worried! :P

o_o? Oh, no... I was just trying to make a joke as to how you must be a real Vulcan, since you could clearly see that the comment could not have been made by a "for realz" Vulcan... or something to that effect...

although he does use the word "generally" twice...could a vulcan think to use an ambiguous helping word as a logical failsafe if overcome with emotion? ;)

I might just be blind, but I only see it once. It is still only saying that generally, if A then B. So it's not even always if A then B, and that is fine. It still does not allow the converse conclusion. Sure, he uses "likely", but he's still making that conclusion based on the if A then B statement. Faulty.

oh yeah, i think i meant "generally" and "likely" both as ambiguous words but i see how "likely" might likely not be one. ;)

still though, this is a complex pickup line. the use of the word "most" twice also implies some kind of ranking system.

perhaps the "most" powerful humans (including #1 powerful human) rank among the "most" attractive (including #1 attractive human).

then it would be reasonable to conclude that #1 attractive human would necessarily be among the most powerful, if not #1 most powerful.

the vulcan is thus implying that the woman is the most attractive of all women, allowing him to make the conclusion that she must also be among the most powerful. if she were not among the most powerful, she could not possibly be #1 most attractive.

:-P

Um, either I'm not following what you're saying or... No.

Using the assumption that powerful->attractive in minerals and humans are similar, attractive->powerful is still a faulty conclusion.
