1. That really depends on a lot more prevailing weather factors than just the daytime temperature, as well as the insulation and ventilation in your house.
2. You probably spent $5 of that savings on gas, and got an hour less sleep (or leisure time)... I guess it's all about priorities.

5. Your A/C fails once a year, and you've paid $400 for the privelege of them MAYBE showing up faster than an independent repairman would have. Do they give you a discount over others' rates?
7. Next time, consider cooling the house one room at a time, for maximum comfort. Not heating and cooling unused rooms is also a great way to save money, in general.
