Author: jinkitama
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Woogyu (Woohyun and Sunggyu)
Summary: They have always been opposites, two sides of the same coin. Generally, they were both the same. Individually, they were different. Nam Woohyun was intense upon first impression; the kind that always caused people to love him or hate him, there was no in between. Kim Sunggyu was mild upon first impression; the kind that you couldn’t really figure out until you got past his eye-smile and polite attitude.

I am not sure what I was trying to convey here; this is very confusing even to me.
They have always been opposites, two sides of the same coin.
Generally, they traveled the same direction. They debuted under Infinite; they worked their way up to being one of the most recognized idols of 2011. Individually, they traveled upon two paths; the paths intertwined, just like their lives, but also branched off so they could grow as two separate beings instead of one entity.
Sunggyu knew his role in Infinite from the first day: lead vocalist, leader, responsibility, oldest hyung to six very different personalities. He was the glue. Woohyun, however, went through an identity crisis. He was in the middle age-wised. He practiced hard to become their third best dancer. He was good-looking…after their two resident visuals: L and Sungyeol. He like to joke around but his pranks were never as funny as Sungyeol’s; his laugh never as attention grabbing as Dongwoo’s. He shared the spotlight as the main vocalist with Sunggyu (this was one of those times where their paths collided).
As Infinite progressed as a whole, Woohyun somehow mellowed out; he blended better into their seven people family. He learned to support not only his egotistical pursues but the other members as well. He truly embraced and accepted the members. He understood their problems and silently watched out for them without ever voicing it; but Sunggyu knew from the way he would silent pat Sungjong’s back after practice.
Vocally, Sunggyu just got generally louder. He found himself yelling a lot more these days. Of course, Sunggyu had to become the opposite of Nam Woohyun. It was an unwritten rule ever since they first met. He was slowly getting frustrated; they were progressing, but not fast enough. He would like to be seen more than just one of seven. Furthermore, it frustrated him to see the changes in Woohyun because it reflected the stagnation in him: he was still Infinite’s leader, still lead vocalist (one that he shared with Woohyun). Woohyun, however, made an image for himself, made friends amongst other idols, and could smile freely because he had none of Sunggyu’s problems.
Woohyun grew and changed because he was not given a role. He had the freedom to do whatever he wanted because no one sat him down and said: “You are now the leader.” Or “You are Infinite’s image, L.”
Sunggyu didn’t see the problem, he was aware of his own unhappiness but he didn't know what to do about it. He couldn't call it a problem because he saw no real solutions; but Woohyun did.
“Hyung, you don’t have to try so hard. Just relax.”
“Says the boy tossing hearts into a sea of fan girls,” Sunggyu retorted.
“I do it because it’s fun. Yeah, I like the attention. But I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t like it,” Woohyun grinned, leaning his back against the wall. “So people call me fake and foolish; but at the end of the day, they aren’t the ones with the adoring fan girls.”
“I…sometimes it’s just too much. I feel like I want so much. I know it’s greedy but I can’t help it.”
“We are all like that. You think I wouldn’t want a solo or my own drama? You think Sungyeol isn’t trying his hardest at his drama? Myungsoo?” The younger shrugged. “We are all greedy, hyung. I want something for myself because I am not “Infinite”; we are Infinite, I am Nam Woohyun. I want to make my own name, too.
“But hey, for now, being Infinite isn’t so bad.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Sunggyu said, studying Woohyun. “You’ve changed.”
“Yeah? How?”
“You became more likable.”
Woohyun laughed, “Gee, thanks.”
“No, I mean it. Me…I think I just became a nag.”
“Yeah, Grandpa Gyu, you are,” Woohyun rolled his eyes, “Thank you for finally admitting you have a problem; Sungjong is about to punch a hole through his bear.”
Sunggyu buried his face in his hand, “When did I become this selfish, dictating leader?”
“Hey, that’s my leader you’re talking about,” came Woohyun’s reply along with hands that caressed his shoulder blades. “I get it, Grandpa Gyu, you’re annoying. But you are our cranky leader, and don’t you forget it. And if occasionally you want more lines for yourself, we aren’t going to hold it against you.”
“But, you guys all grew so much. How come I feel like I am not going anywhere?”
“We were able to find our places because of you, stupid. Who led us when we were rambunctious brats? Who stepped back and let us have our time to shine instead of always dominating the conversation? It was you. And so what if you want something for yourself now? That just means you’ve changed, too.”
“For the worse,” Sunggyu sighed.
“No. For the better. You want your share of our dreams; you want your own dream. You didn’t like being an idol before, remember? Honestly, sometimes I thought you’d quit. But this…right now, it just means that you are not going anywhere,” Woohyun massaged small circles into Sunggyu’s back.
“This conversation is stupid.”
“Yes it is.”
“Why am I moping when we just won two awards yesterday?”
“Because you are Kim Sunggyu and you think too much. Just be happy, Grandpa.”
“YAH!” Sunggyu lifted his head to glare at Woohyun. “I am not a grandpa!”
“Calm down, elderly people shouldn’t get worked up.”
“I am going to hurt you.”
“Oh~ I am so scare, you can’t even glare at people with your eyes opened.”
“THEY ARE OPENED!”
-
“What’s going on in there?” Sungyeol asked, staring at the direction of Woohyun and Sunggyu’s shared bedroom. “I thought Woohyun went in there to help Sunggyu hyung out of his funk.”
Myungsoo gave him a look that somewhat insulted his intelligence.
“WHAT?”
“Are you deaf? He is helping Sunggyu hyung out of his funk.” Myungsoo said slowly.
“Sunggyu was in a funk?” Dongwoo asked, glancing around the room. “No one told me!”
“He’s been moping around for months!” Hoya said, disbelief colored his voice, “You didn’t notice?”
“No?”
“Well, he is definitely feeling better now,” Myungsoo piped up.
“Yeah, but I am worried for Woohyun’s life,” Hoya replied, not that he got up to help.
“Hey, serves Woohyun right for losing rock, paper, scissors,” Sungyeol shrugged. “His lost so he has to deal with Sunggyu hyung.”
“Was that what we were playing for?” Dongwoo’s eyes rounded. “We weren’t talking about food?”
…
“No, hyung,” Sungjong face palmed. “No one was talking about food.”
// END
I know Dongwoo's not clueless but he's fun to poke at...haha, figuratively. Honestly, this is really how I see Sunggyu and Woohyun. I don't think Gyu-leader got annoying, but I do think he has opened up and is showing more of himself (even his naggy side). He still politely smiles at the camera and all that...but I don't know -- I like seeing him meaner? I like seeing him yell, "YAH! LEE SUNGJONG" more than him fake-laugh during interviews; it's because I know he is more himself even when he shows something less "idol-like." As for Woohyun, I do see him mature more. I think he has found a place for himself and he is less restless. I don't know. That is something for Infinite to know...but watching from the sideline..this is what I see.
