Doesn't unemployment compensate you for the difference, if you take a job that will earn less than your unemployment payments? I mean, if you're making $300/week UE benefits and then find a job that pays $200 a week, I thought UE continued to give you $100 a week, at least until your benefits expire, to try to prevent the very scenario you're in right now.
That models works only if you are actually making a decent amount of money on unemployment.
I am making about 160 a week on unemployment. Let's say I take a job making about 8 bucks an hour, which is pretty much what I'd be able to get if I wanted to work retail. I'd be pulling in about 250 a week after taxes. I'd likely be going through a full tank of gas to get to and from work, which costs 60 bucks. Even if I spent no other money while I was at work, I'd be bringing home about 30 dollars more than I make now for just sitting at home, and using my energy to try and find a decent job.
I need about 9 an hour in order to just pay my bills and nothing else. 10 would allow me to go out to dinner or pop down to Philly once and a while.
