I wasn't going to mention this because I do realise that it has the potential to upset some of you. However, my journal, I can say what I want, bla bla bla and those of you who know me of old won't be in the least bit surprised by my general opinion ( Read more... )

I was quite taken aback at how people decried cruelty and violence to the cat, but then promoted it with regards to the woman. Hypocritical much? Did anyone say, "That woman might be mentally ill; I hope she gets help."

No.

This! Given that we know little about the woman I can't believe how people seem to have decided that she is more evil than hitler and must be hung, drawn and quartered because of her actions. People are so odd!

Thing is, the Facebook/LJ/Whatever people *do* react that way to other acts of cruelty/violence etc. - once they've been stirred up by the media, anyway. Because, generally, there's a lot of stupid people out there, and we seem to live in a world where 'social networking' turns into 'mob mentality' at the drop of a cat in a dustbin hat.

I posted about it on Facebook and was quite shocked at some of the responses. I think what she did was cruel and nasty, definitely, but certainly don't think she should rot in hell or be locked in a dustbin for 8 hours. She should be punished in some way, though, because she did cause unnecessary suffering to an animal. A bit of community service would do. And then perhaps some help with her mental health, because from what I've read about her she probably needs it.

Oh gods yes, this. I've come near to having a sharp word with a couple of the 'burn the bitch' people but decided to save what little of my sanity remains and just ignore it.

It is amazing how vitriolic some of the responses have been.

As you know, I posted about this (in a signal+ manner), and have repeatedly said I hoped she turned herself in before the internet hate machine could take credit for her outing (I believe she did in fact do so).

So far as the burn her, attack her house comments and so on go I'm gutted, but unsurprised. It is typical of the reactive righteousness some people adopt in such situations. I seem to recall people suggesting the same should happen to the social workers in Haringey, for example.

It's wrong, but predictable. Personally I'm hoping she gets help - it sounds like she needs it. The whole thing is a mess (admittedly of her own making), but it doesn't appear to have been a malicious act persay.

Oh god, I keep seeing this on Facebook, and it's getting to me- I have a cat, and I think to put any animal in a bin is a pretty shitty thing to do, but claiming to hope she gets shot, burns in hell, whatever, seems quite disproportionate. But I like a quiet life too much to say anything like this, at least so far :P
