SW Application

Name: Bridget Guisbourne
Series: Guilty Gear
Age: 14

Personality: Bridget is a pretty sweet kid- well-meaning, polite and smart. However, he is also headstrong, temperamental and a fair bit gullible- and amazingly unlucky (and sometimes clumsy) to boot. He’s got a strong sense of justice, and once he’s convinced that a person is wrong, it takes Hell and high water to get him to change his mind. He’s used to being called ‘cute’ or ‘adorable’ but secretly hates it because what he wants most in the world is to be able to stop living a lie and be able to act like the boy he is. Unfortunately, because of how long he’s had to act like a girl, it’s unconsciously engraved into his every action and mannerism, so despite his best efforts, he will probably always act inherently effeminate. He often tries, however, to at least attempt to come off manly- though more often than not he fails spectacularly.

He has a talent for being extremely self-reliant - after all, a proper man can't always rely on others, in his mind. He’s also prone to constantly wishing to prove his strength- it would seem to be to others, but it’s really to himself. He will never admit it, but he considers himself to be weak simply because of the way he was raised. He often gets jealous of people- even (and especially) girls- more physically capable than he is, though he is not bitter about it, simply resigned to the fact that (he thinks) he’ll never be as strong as they are. He likes to tinker with machinery and is rather good at it, by virtue of plenty of study and practice as well as the fact that his father is of a similar mind. The hobby is somewhat secret (mostly from his mother) as he spent time he was meant to be learning ‘ladylike’ things like embroidery learning it instead- though his cooking lessons he never skipped out on, simply because in the end, it would help him be further self-sufficient while he was on his own.

Bridget treats anything he can’t immediately overcome as a challenge of sorts, and he’s very persistent in reaching his goals- whatever they may be. He likes to study- and tries to take as many classes as he can in order to learn as much as possible. He’s a little socially awkward, never having had the chance to make many friends other than his brother as a child, and sometimes doesn’t know how to deal with other people. He also doesn’t like to let people think he’s a girl despite how he dresses, and will almost always correct people when they refer to him in the feminine.

Certain aspects of his life have made him more accepting of Muggles and muggle traditions than most pure-blood wizards- especially of muggle music, and he tends to quote song lyrics or break into song at spontaneous moments. He’s also, because of his upbringing, a bit of an attention-getter, and like to do things that give him a chance to ‘perform’- in other words, a chance to show people what he can really do- though he doesn’t always realize it. But he does his best to get along with people- provided of course, they don’t set off that well-hidden part-Veela temper. But not to worry- he can keep that well under control. It’s the things he can’t control that are the most worrisome.

Background: They say every story has a basis in fact. This holds true even for fairy tales- especially those about cursed princesses. In one magical town in England, these stories held particularly true- especially for twins of the same gender. Granted, as far as curses went, Calamity (despite its name) was actually quite tame. No death, no dismemberment- not even any disfigurement- simply ill-timed, inexplicable bad luck. Granted, not simply ‘bad’ luck- it wouldn’t be called Calamity then, would it? No, the luck that came with Calamity was often of the sort that got those cursed with it into the sort of situations that most fairy tales are made of- astounding odds, dangerous misunderstandings, and monetary misfortune. So it was understandable when, upon the birth of their twin sons, Siobhan and Nathaniel Guisbourne were immediately concerned with the possibility of them being cursed and the family losing everything that they’d worked so hard to obtain.

There was, of course, very little in the way of preventing the curse- that is, once it was found out that the children were both boys- so it was decided that one of the twins would be raised as a girl, in the vain hopes that whomever or whatever had perpetuated this curse wouldn’t catch wind of the twins’ true genders. So their second born became Bridget as opposed to Bradley, and was raised like any proper young lady of a wealthy wizarding family, and for a time, everything was right in their world. However, as he grew older, Bridget began to question his lot in life, and why it was that he had to be raised as a girl- after all, it had been some time since the curse had actually been seen in action. So ever the precocious child, Bridget demanded answers- and received none other than the standards- ‘it’s for your own good’ and ‘you’ll understand when you’re older’. Dissatisfied with this answer, Bridget decided to go out on his own to try and discover the truth for himself- much to the distress of his family, who sent along a guardian to watch over him- a magically-animated stuffed bear named Roger, who took his duties far too seriously, in Bridget’s opinion.

Along the way, he met a great many people and learned a great many things-but nothing that would help him deal with the curse. And so after bidding goodbye to the last of his friends (a restaurant-owning chi-witch in China) Bridget returned home in time to receive his letter from Hogwarts. However, that very afternoon, Bridget and his family received a visitor who had come to tell them of strange rumors she had heard regarding the Guisbourne twins- more accurately, about Bridget himself. Somehow, she had gotten the truth of his gender out of one of the house servants, and cursed him for daring to ‘try and escape his fate’- then disappeared into seemingly thin air before anyone could stop her. While it was impossible to remove the curse, they discovered it was possible to lessen its effects with a countercharm, making it easier for Bridget to function- though one of the stipulations of the charm was that he continue to dress like a girl the better part of the time (the person who cast the countercharm, despite being quite well-meaning, couldn’t stand to think of him actually being male). Thus Bridget- far less fortunate but no less optimistic for it- made his way to Hogwarts, fully intending to use the school and its resources to try and get rid of his curse once and for all.

Family [briefly]

Mother (Siobhan)- A half-veela former auror, who retired to take care of her children- mostly to make sure her son’s secret wasn’t revealed.

Father (Nathaniel)- One of the highest-ranking wizards of the department of Magical Technology development- he’s the reason Bridget thinks that enough information can solve any problem.

Brother (Bastian)- The elder twin escaped being cursed by sheer luck, ironically enough, and attends Beuxbatons in the hopes that he can find information there to help his twin break the curse he’s under. Bridget jokes that all of his good luck went to his brother when he was cursed.

Ah! There you are you silly thing!

[Behind the chipper voice, you can hear music starting up, though it’s definitely not the sort you’d expect to hear from a student at Hogwarts. The voice continues, undaunted, despite the guitar now riffing in the background.]

Hullo all! Guisbourne here, in case you didn’t know, and I was wondering-

Anyone got any ideas where I can get some decent fireworks?

Roleplay Sample: “What was I thinking…?”

Bridget peered at his new schedule carefully, expression getting progressively more depressed with every class he tried to make sense of on his schedule, running a hand through his hair. He could have sworn he’d picked classes that wouldn’t interfere with each other, but somehow he’d gotten a bit ahead of himself and signed up for more classes than he’d realized. Staring down at his schedule, he heaved another sigh and rolled onto his stomach, a finger tracing over the schedule once again.

“Well, it’s obvious what I’m going to have to do-now it’s all just a matter of whether or not they’ll take my application. I certainly hope they do- I really like all of these courses, and I’d hate to drop any of them…”

He frowned slightly, but then smacked himself lightly on the cheeks and putting on a determined expression.

“Nonsense! I’m sure they’ll let me! I’ve just got to make sure I word things properly and I’m sure I’ll have no problem..!”

He paused then, putting a finger to his lips as he rolled over and sat up suddenly.

“Oh dear- and this is without accounting for clubs…”

He almost broke out into nervous giggles, but went quiet at the sound of someone coming up the stairs. Letting out a little yip, he yanked the curtains on his bed shut, and lit the tip of his wand for light. It wasn’t anything against his roommate- it was just that Bridget didn’t like broadcasting his mistakes if he could help it, whether the other person cared or not, and in his eyes, the catastrophe that was his schedule at the moment counted as one of them.

Perhaps later he could try and get acquainted with him properly. Or, at the very least, talk to him for more than a few minutes.

He sighed and pouted, rolling his eyes at himself.

Bugger how pathetic he was at dealing with people who weren’t his brother, really.
