Soho Dolls vs. Kylie

Went to see the Soho Dolls in Cambridge last Tuesday - had a pretty fine time despite the fact that NONE of you lot turned up so I was left on my own! (I randomly chatted to people instead until I found a few who didn't run away scared). Hm, interesting. They're sort of Goldfrapp without the annoying 70s retro, aren't they?

Ah, erm, ooh that's a hard one... Just had to find Goldfrapp's MySpace page to remind myself.

Ah - you're basing that on the video for "Right and Right Again"? That's one of Soho Dolls more poppy ones, but I'd say the two bands diverge rather more than that: Soho Dolls are more hard-edged, heavier at times, and with a darker edge. Even their gentler tracks (e.g. "I'm Not Cool") are only "gentle" in the sense that Lily Allen is - the music sounds soft and amusing, but the lyrics are subversive.
