The reason I traveled to Wales was to visit Portmeirion (pronounced "port Marion"), the resort where the TV show "The Prisoner" was filmed

I am now checking out this show thanks to these pictures. It's pretty surreal when you get to see a location like that.
When we were kids, my mom took my family and I one a hike to see where Mash was filmed. Unfortunately, all that was left was a rusty old jeep and two very cranky kids after walking miles to see what amounted to nothing ;P
For kids, you kind of need something like Universal Studios, or Disneyland. Kids kind of expect things to be like what they saw on screen. I think that even Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross is probably a disappointment for kids, unless they run across it without expecting it. But as an adult, I can appreciate the significance of a place without needing the experience of the film to be re-enacted.
That said, walking into Portmeirion was even more exciting for me than stepping onto, say, the bridge of the Enterprise, because it was a real place. All of the buildings were real, there wasn't the knowledge that, a few feet away, there was just a bunch of 2x4s holding a fake wall up. And all the more remarkable for having been a place I'd thought about for decades, and still almost completely unchanged.
Portmeirion is beautiful. Great shots- sorry you got rained on, but the emptiness of the Village adds some nice creepiness. "Hammer into Anvil" was my favorite episode.
Thanks! The whole place flowed together really well. I think it's because it was all planned by one architect, and he could control the overall design of the entire place. He was able to enact a unique vision for the place, based on his love of the Mediterreanian region.
