Title: Down Comes a Dream
Fandom: Sailormoon / Manga
Characters/Pairing: Chiba Erika, Chiba Mamoru
Rating: G
Summary: Mamoru was his mother's world.
Bath time was her favourite time of day.
"Ready, Mamo-chan?" Erika whispered, picking the baby up from where he played on his blankie. "Does Mamo-chan want his bath?"
He cooed in response, reaching for her hair and missing, and offering a wide, toothless grin when his hand closed on her nose.
Erika smiled and kissed his wrist, watching as his eyes focused on her mouth. "Is that a yes, silly?"
Mamoru bounced in her arms, both hands flailing with abandon. He did everything with abandon and Erika only hoped she could keep up.
The trip up the stairs and to the bathroom was made more exciting by Mamoru's newfound fascination with the railing. He reached for it, overbalancing and almost toppling out of Erika's arms, and then giggled in delight when she yelped and pulled him close.
"You're going to give your mother a heart attack," she murmured, breathing the words against his cheek. He only burbled at her, blowing bubbles and making a mess of her blouse while she opened the bathroom door. Erika couldn't help but smile. "And now you think those pretty blue eyes will make everything all better. Always the charmer, just like your father!"
As he did at nearly every mention of the word 'father,' Mamoru laughed out loud, clapping his hands against Erika's shoulder.
"Do you know your father loves you?" Erika asked, still teasing as she quickly stripped off Mamoru's dirty onesie. "He does - almost as much as Mama. But nobody loves Mamo-chan more than Mama."
Mamoru continued to smile, his attention focused on the thick piece of hair he'd managed to capture at last, and Erika kissed his forehead. She might not have meant to have children so early, but Mamoru was her life, now, and she wouldn't change that for the world.
"And Mama will always love Mamo-chan."
Title: Missing Person
Fandom: Sailormoon / Manga
Characters/Pairing: Tsukino Ikuko
Rating: G
Summary: Ikuko mourns Zoisite.
It was nearing eleven before Usagi and Shingo both were settled in their rooms, and by then, Ikuko was exhausted. Making a small cup of coffee, she sat at the table and turned on the television. Ikuko wasn't too fond of most evening programs, but she had no intention of actually watching whatever was on. She just needed the background noise to unwind.
A few moments after the television sprang to life, Luna padded into the kitchen. Ikuko smiled at the cat and patted her lap in invitation. There was something soothing about the black cat, an air about her that was almost too understanding for an animal. Not that Ikuko could speak with much authority on that count - she'd never had a pet before, not as a child or an adult.
For a few minutes, they simply sat like that. Ikuko pet Luna, enjoying the feline's low purr, and sipped her coffee, letting the day's strain dissipate as the television prattled on. She'd almost managed to relax completely when the news program started. Normally, Ikuko wouldn't have paid it any more heed than she had the drama that had been on earlier, but the picture that splayed across the small kitchen television arrested her whole attention.
It was a boy, not much older than Usagi. He was in a school uniform, his hair pulled back, and his face open and bright. He reminded her of Shingo, a little.
"The body of Shindou Masaki, age seventeen, was found in Azabu Juuban this morning, near Juuban Middle School. The Takashiro Gakuin junior had been missing for seven months, with a reward of nearly 500000-en for his safe return offered by his parents. Now that he has been positively identified, however, police are puzzled by the unusually gruesome manner of his death as well as his presence here in Tokyo. More information will come as the investigation continues, and in other news ..."
With a soft click, Ikuko turned the television off, her hand stilling on Luna's soft fur. "Only seventeen," she murmured, unable to make the image of the smiling teen disappear from her mind's eye. "Why would anyone want to hurt a child like that, Luna?"
As if picking up on her unease, Luna hopped off her lap and studied the now-black television screen. Ikuko took the opportunity to stand, carrying her cup back to the sink and stooping to scratch the top of Luna's head on her way back. "His poor mother," she whispered as Luna nudged at her hand. "I can't imagine ..."
She didn't want to imagine what Shindou-kun's mother was going through, didn't want to even wonder what it would be like to lose one of her children. Still, when she snuck into first Shingo, and then Usagi's room that night, it was Shindou-kun's face that hovered in her mind, and it was his soft smile she saw as she kissed them goodnight one more time.
To lose a child ... Ikuko didn't think she would ever be strong enough for that.
