Theme: 4. graduation
10settings Pairing: Zhoumi/Shindong
Title: I Love You More Than My Love For Food
1st grade elementary
Zhoumi was always being teased and bullied because of his Chinese accent when speaking and that he isn’t good with speaking in Korean. It didn’t help that he owned a very thin and frail-looking body as if he could be knocked off by the wind any second now.
A bully named Shindong liked to push him around literally but Zhoumi always regains his balance and never falls off balance. Shindong also liked to steal Zhoumi’s snacks and sometimes lunch but he doesn’t eat all of it. He always made sure there would be leftovers for Zhoumi. He also made Zhoumi do his homework sometimes. And of course, he never fails to make fun of Zhoumi’s Chinese accent.
During an innocent game of truth or dare, one of their classmates named Eunhyuk jokingly asked. “Which do you love more? Zhoumi or fried chicken?”
“Zhoumi.” Their classmates laughed thinking that the answer was a joke. Shindong also laughed with them to hide his embarrassment. Zhoumi was shock to hear the answer and of course, Zhoumi didn’t believe him since Shindong continued to bully him after that.

“Zhoumi!!! I’m so happy to find out that we’re classmates again!”
While Shindong expressed his happiness with a hug, Zhoumi expressed his discomfort by trying to get away from the hug.
“I missed you!!!”
Zhoumi simply raised an eyebrow and definitely didn’t believe Shindong’s words.
“Didn’t you miss me?”
“No.” Zhoumi instantly replied. After all, Shindong was the reason why he transferred to another elementary school for 3rd grade.
Shindong’s smile faltered a bit. “Ah, well. I wasn’t exactly nice to you back then. Sorry about that.”
Zhoumi glared. “You think saying sorry would be enough?”
Shindong was taken aback by Zhoumi. Shock at the way Zhoumi was treating him that he could only watch Zhoumi walk away from him.

Zhoumi received food every day. Sometimes a box of chocolates or biscuits. Sometimes fruits or cakes. Sometimes homemade lunch placed in a plastic container. Zhoumi was amused by this.
“That’s one heck of a secret admirer. Giving you delicious food everyday. You’ll definitely gain weight, which is something you seem to lack right now.” Ryeowook commented.
“Well, it’s a good thing you’re getting food instead of cards, love letters or flowers. Food is definitely better than those.” Another friend by the name of Donghae said.

3rd year high school
“You don’t have to keep on giving me food anymore. You stole my food back in 1st and 2nd grade. Then you gave my food 1st and 2nd year of high school. You already paid back.” Zhoumi said as he confronted Shindong.
“But I still haven’t paid back from pushing and shoving you around and teasing your Chinese accent.” Shindong replied. “And you can’t push me around because I’m heavier. You also can’t tease me for having a Chinese accent since I don’t have one.”
“Fine. Do whatever you want.”
And because Zhoumi said that, Shindong stepped forward and hugged Zhoumi for a few seconds before running away in fear of what Zhoumi might do to him.
But actually, Zhoumi just stood there in shock.

“Woah! Still receiving food from your admirer? He’s really persistent. Aren’t you curious as to who he is?” Ryeowook asked.
“I already know who he is.” Zhoumi replied casually. “And he’s not an admirer.”
“What?!?! How come you never told me of this?!?!” Donghae asked in shock.
“Who is he? And what do you mean that he’s not an admirer?” Ryeowook was really curious.
“Secret.”

“Which do you love more? Zhoumi or fried chicken?”
Zhoumi didn’t mean to eavesdrop. He just happened to overhear the question of Sungmin, a close friend of Shindong.
“Zhoumi.”
Zhoumi felt a sense of de ja vu when he heard Shindong answer. Was it a joke? But he didn’t hear any laughter. He tried to take a peak and he saw Shindong looking embarrassed and Sungmin having a pitying look on Shindong. But still, Zhoumi didn’t believe it.

Graduation Day
“It should be about time that I forgive you.” Zhoumi said.
“Really? I’m forgiven?” Shindong asked.
Zhoumi simply nodded.
“Well… thanks… I guess…” Shindong said awkwardly before turning to leave.
“Is that all you have to say to me?”
Shindong looked back at Zhoumi with confusion on his face.
So Zhoumi asked. “Which do you lo..v...like more? Me or fried chicken?” He couldn't say that one word. It just doesn't feel right saying that word. It's too soon to say it.
“Fried chicken.”
Zhoumi doesn’t know why he felt disappointed when Shindong gave him an answer. “So you really were just joking back in 1st grade and when you answered it to your friend just a few months ago.”
“I wasn’t.”
“So which is really the truth?” Zhoumi asked. His eyebrow twitched in frustration.
“I like fried chicken more but I like you most.”
What the heck?!?! That was so corny!!! Zhoumi wanted to say that on Shindong’s face but the words came out differently. “I guess I like you too.”

2nd year university
Even though they went to different schools and had different courses, they call or text each other sometimes. If they have a free weekend, they get to see each other. They were taking their relationship slow by acting out like friends and getting to know more about each other.
"I really love your mom's cooking." Shindong said as he ate the food which Zhoumi's mom made.
"Do you love me or my mom's cooking?"
"Well... without your mom's cooking, you wouldn't be the Zhoumi that I know today."
Zhoumi laughed at Shindong's answer but his laugh was cut out short when Shindong added. "But of course, I love you more."
"Same here."
"Same what?"
"... love you too." Zhoumi said in a very soft voice as if whispering.
"What did you say?"
"It's your loss if you didn't hear it." Zhoumi said as he continued eat and stuff food in his mouth so he wouldn't be able to talk anymore.
Shindong just happily continued eating. Of course, he heard what Zhoumi said. He just wished that Zhoumi said it more loudly but oh well, there'll be a next time.
