The chick on the right~ Appearance: Nothing too out of the ordinary for a 20 year old Taiwanese college student! Her hair is tinted red and normally in braids or a pony tail and is a bit past shoulder length. She likes wearing cute kiddie like clothes. Puffy sleeves, sailor shirts, bows, pink things, skirts with capris underneath. She’s very modest dress wise. No make up really either, except perhaps lip gloss but she’s not one to pile on the eye shadow or lip stick. Though sometimes she is made fun of as “grandma” for wearing such crazy, non-fashionable clothing. When she has to go out in public with He Qun, stylists normally attack her to make her look more presentable as He Qun’s girl friend. Hair spray and make-up off the wazzoo, along with pretty, fashionable dresses or whatever ends up fitting for the occasion.
Personality: Very, very childish. She constantly whines, complains and pouts. But despite all of that she is pretty kind, nice and knows what to say to make you feel better. Xiao Shi is highly expressive and speaks her mind rather willingly about situations. She treats everyone rather equal and it doesn’t matter who you are, she’ll still tell you what she thinks, just maybe more polite depending.
She hates admitting when He Qun is right or betters her in a situation. For some reason these two are terribly competitive and even more so stubborn as hell. Neither ever gives into the other and with that they constantly tease each other over really stupid things. It’s really frustrating to watch them go at it, trust me.
Despite being as stubborn as a mule you can guilt her into doing almost anything and easily allows herself to be bossed around. She tries to face her problems by herself, along with the teasing she’s given at school but that often leads to her in bad health and failing miserably at whatever stupid task those bullying her dish out. But no matter how much teasing she’s given or how many times she falls on her face her family is normally around to cheer her on. It’s like her own personal cheerleading squad. They are all very supportive and optimistic, hence Xiao Shi being terribly optimistic and stubborn. She hates to disappoint her family so normally Vincent Ge and He Qun will use that against her to get her to do things.
Xiao Shi, however, is not the smartest. She tends to talk out loud to herself and if she thinks too hard on things she often over does it and winds up answering the question or whatever incorrectly. She’s terribly klutzy and flat-footed causing her to fall on her face just by walking around. Or walk into walls, she’s done that a few times. Even had pillars fall on her! Yep, she’s kind of a walking disaster and more than often blames her horrible luck on He Qun, whom she refers to as “埽把星” or Jinx.
Abilities/Strengths: She is a perfectly normal college student. No laser beam eyes or mad sword fighting skills. But she is extremely gifted at cheering people up! Her motto is “Just smile and you can overcome anything.”, a phrase she often says to He Qun when he’s feeling down in the dumps. She does try her best to make sure those around her are happy and hardly ever holds grudges. Unless you’re Liang Liang, one of her constant bullies at school. She’s probably the only one Xiao Shi has held a grudge against ever, besides random things He Qun has done.
Weaknesses: You can guilt-trip this girl into doing anything. If you make her feel bad or act like the victim she’ll bow to your will so you’ll feel better. He Qun is probably a good weakness for her too. She cares about him a great deal even with the cat-fights. She hates to see him upset or being hurt and tries her best to keep a smile on his face no matter what. Often leading her into some sticky situations. Oh and her curse. She’s been cursed to not be able to keep a relationship more than 90 days, 3 months. Sadly this curse has come true over seventeen times.
History: You really don’t figure out anything about Xiao Shi prior to her entering college. What you can make out is that she’s in her third year at Ding Feng University and lives with her father, mother, grandfather, older brother, and sister-in-law. Also that her family owns an Italian pasta restaurant, which is called Smiling Pasta.
During her first year in university she was “cursed” by one of the upperclassmen, Ah Zhe (He Qun’s younger brother), to never have a relationship last more than 3 months. It wasn’t any hocus pocus or whatever, just Ah Zhe teasing the new freshman girl who gained a crush on him. Sadly, the curse actually came true seventeen times.
On the seventeenth failure, however, she bumped into He Qun while wandering around a city aimlessly in the midst of despair. And by bumped I mean crashed into this guy. He was apparently running from paparazzi who were trying to take his picture, crashed into Xiao Shi causing them to spin around (It’s a romance comedy SO NATURALLY~) and land on top of each other and kiss. Well, the paparazzi chasing He Qun were most pleased with these pictures and started trying to interview Xiao Shi after the initial incident. He Qun didn’t want the strange girl to say anything and dragged her with him. The following day tabloids stated that “The Pop Prince Makes out with Girl in PUBLIC!!” This is Taiwan, mind you, so affectionate displays in public are frowned on big time. He Qun’s manager, Vincent (often called Vincent Ge or big brother Vincent) was pretty pissed and while trying to cope under interviewers pressure he stated that He Qun and Xiao Shi were engaged and had been dating for a year. This is clearly a lie but everyone else bought it just fine. Xiao Shi and He Qun, on the other hand were pretty pissed off.
Because of all the rumors and such He Qun was transferred to Ding Feng university as well and put in all of Xiao Shi’s classes. Because He Qun had to protect his image the two of them had to constantly fake their relationship. Xiao Shi went along with it partially because she didn’t want to lose to a bet she made with her brother. (The bet was that if the seventeenth failed she’d have to dress up in her family’s restaurant’s mascot’s costume for a whole day, her family never learned that she was dumped and she told them that she was actually dating He Qun, since they were faking it already)
Soon though, Xiao Shi finds out that she had walked right into a very nasty love triangle. He Qun’s old girl friend, Rita is now dating He Qun’s brother Ah Zhe. Rita like Ah Zhe. Ah Zhe is still in love with his last girl friend who died because of He Qun, but is trying to spite him so he’s dating Rita. And He Qun still likes Rita. ... CONFUSING? Yes, well imagine walking into the middle of this triangle.
Needless to say throughout the series it is an uphill struggle against the paparazzi in an attempt to keep Xiao Shi and He Qun’s fake relationship in tact. Eventually it is found out that He Qun and Xiao Shi actually aren’t a couple and all hell breaks loose! He Qun’s popularity as the Prince of Pop is greatly at stake and Xiao Shi feels terribly guilty because it had been her tape recorded words that had let the secret out. But ha! This is a romance comedy so of course by the time this had all occurred the two of them had actually began to put up with each other and maybe even like one another!
But because of a bunch of drama llama eating everyone alive, Rita and Ah Zhe began having some problems. Rita liked being with Ah Zhe but she wasn’t getting any affection back because Ah Zhe was still bent over his dead girl friend. To put this part short, they broke up and Rita ran to He Qun for support, thinking that, because of the earlier events and the secret of He Qun and Xiao Shi not being a couple, that they could get back together. Well, of course, Xiao Shi spotted them hugging and bugged out. He Qun and Xiao Shi finally decided to be an actual couple and then THIS happens.
So Xiao Shi made a decision. She wanted to know for sure that He Qun felt the same way about her as she did for him. With that she decided to announce in public that she liked him and if he agreed he had to come and stand with her. Because this needs more problems, the paparazzi was invited and now Xiao Shi’s reputation was seriously at stake. LUCKILY! During the announcement, just when things looked really bad and it didn’t seem like He Qun would show up (he was reluctant because of how bad the lie had come out and didn’t want to push Xiao Shi into things anymore, it was a kind of protection) he did! And protected her from flying water bottles! (the crowd was getting a little antsy)
Even though He Qun had come he didn’t say he liked her back and just that he’d protect her. This was NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Xiao Shi wanted to hear him say he liked her back. Specific words, really. “我喜欢你” So after much debate they set up a time and such, like Xiao Shi had devised, where He Qun would profess his love to Xiao Shi! Of course this always has to be big, blown, up, fancy and take place at school. What? Yeah, no idea but this is a Taiwanese drama, it isn’t supposed to make sense all the time.
Well, after He Qun had “protected” Xiao Shi they were declared a cute couple and He Qun’s popularity came back! So naturally they then had to brag about their relationship on television, events, interviews and the like. During one event, right before the chosen date when He Qun would confess he liked Xiao Shi in public, things went a little wrong. One of the banged up, decorations at the event decided to fall. There is no rest with this show. Xiao Shi managed to push He Qun out of the way but in doing so she was knocked out by the falling pillar and given a concussion. Well, that sucks. But anyways, that’s when she shows up at Template.
