2:48 AM, empty street.
“Are you still mad?” Junmyeon asks apologetically. He tries to catch up with Kyungsoo’s pace but the younger seems to ignore the other when he does not answer.
“Hey, ‘Soo!” Junmyeon calls when they reach Kyungsoo’s house. Kyungsoo stops, facing the door, his back on the older. “I could’ve brought you home earlier if you weren’t in the mood for a movie,” he explains.
“Oh! Oh I see,” Kyungsoo says in an unusually higher tone. “I’ve waited for an hour and a half anyway again this week so it’s okay. I don’t want to put my waiting effort in vain so thank you very much Kim Junmyeon?”
“Didn’t I tell you this week’s a busy week at work?” Junmyeon asks, raising his tone as well.
Kyungsoo hisses and snickers. “And oh, last week, too? And the week before that? Wow. I understand, don’t worry. I know you’re working so hard for us, and I’m quoting you by the way, but I’ve been counting and today’s the seventh, Kim Junmoney so-”
“Don’t call me names,” Junmyeon mumbles. He flusters at how hard he tries his best to be calm but he thinks that he is already at the tip. His hands are shaking and he clenches his fist hard. “Don’t call me-”
“Oh! Oh. I am really sorry,” Kyungsoo says sarcastically. “Kim Junmoney with the yen I guess, is that the correct-”
A strong and loud slap. Junmyeon’s left arm is raised and Kyungsoo’s face is craned to his right, eyes wide, teary, a hand slowly moving to touch his cheek. It burns. It burns more when a tear rolls down. Kyungsoo bites on his lower lip, failing an attempt to keep in the tears.
Junmyeon is as shocked as Kyungsoo is, mouth slightly open as he tries to speak, his skin suddenly becoming paler.
“It’s okay,” Kyungsoo mumbles with his head down, shoulders shaking as he cries. He enters the key and pushes the door quickly. Junmyeon reaches for his arm but Kyungsoo shrugs it away violently that the older has to step back.
“Good night. Thank you,” Kyungsoo says and he slams the door. He runs to his room while sobbing, totally ignoring the loud knocks Junmyeon makes and his begs to open the door. He throws himself on his bed. The still red part of his face touches a pillow and he flinches, quickly pulling himself up when the impact sends a jolt of burn on his right cheek, and he sits on his bed, knees pulled to his chest, arms around his legs. He curls on its edge, back resting on the wall.
3:56 AM, room
Kyungsoo’s eyes are red. He has calmed down somehow but he still feels fuzzy, heavy. He can’t sleep yet. The redness of his cheek is gone and his face doesn’t hurt as much as it did an hour ago.
He crawls to the other side of his bed, pulling the handle of a drawer and takes a metal box out. “Junmyeon and Me”, the label says. He carefully takes off the lid off and picks a clump of papers and photos from it. Kyungsoo is not entirely sure why he is doing this but he just feels like rereading everything Junmyeon has been writing him since they became close. He’s hurting but he thinks this will help him feel a lot better.
Friendly letters. Silly stories. Corny poems. Kyungsoo goes through them one by one and it does not last too long before he finds himself smiling again. He sighs when he finally reaches Junmyeon’s long confession letter which Kyungsoo got in their last year in the university. It’s basically full of “I really love you,” “Let’s get married and adopt children,” “I want to live with you forever,” and a lot more of Junmyeon’s mastery of mushy stuff.
He lies down as he finishes it. When he completely unfolds the letter, a photo drops from it. It’s a photo of him and Junmyeon, taken when they were in seventh grade, the year which they first met each other. A huge wave of nostalgia fills his chest and he starts to cry again, although this time in a mixture of emotions. As he stares more into the picture, he can feel the pang of guilt and a tinge of hate for himself for being selfish and undiscerning.
He stops, quickly stuffing the letters but the photo back into the box. He falls back to his bed and falls asleep, the photo clutched in between his hands.
9:16 AM, porch
Kyungsoo wakes up with a jolt, eyes wide open. He feels something crumpled in his hands and remembers that he has been holding his photo with Junmyeon in his sleep.
Junmyeon. He needs to talk to him.
He quickly gets off his bed, putting the photo back in the drawer, and runs to the main door. He gasps though in surprise when the moment he turns the knob and pulls the door open, Junmyeon is still there on the porch, sitting on one of the steps. He turns around and quickly stands up, fixing the creases of his clothes when he sees Kyungsoo standing by the door.
“Good morning and I’m sorry?” Junmyeon says, his voice cracked and shaky. “Sorry about last night I really didn’t mean to hurt you-”
Junmyeon stops when Kyungsoo lunges and hugs the older tightly. He buries his face onto Junmyeon’s chest and sobs, muffling a series of “I’m sorry” as he tightens his arms around the other. “I promise I won’t call you names again. I won’t be selfish. I won’t do it again. I’m really sorry. I’m really sorry,”
Junmyeon, although surprised, smiles. He holds Kyungsoo by the shoulder and gently pushes him that there is enough space for him to look into the other’s eyes. “This will never happen again,” he says calmly, cold hands finding Kyungsoo’s cheeks, thumbs wiping the tears.
Kyungsoo sniffs and smiles back while nodding. Junmyeon leans and kisses him, a chaste one that sends a funny churn in Kyungsoo’s stomach. When they break, Kyungsoo giggles. “You’re the mushiest, I swear.”
“You like it anyway,” Junmyeon says. “Your eyes are red. You cried all night?”
Kyungsoo blushes and says nothing. Junmyeon laughs.
“I need to rest, I didn’t get enough sleep,” the older continues.
“Drink something warm first. You’re cold,” Kyungsoo suggests, still feeling how cold Junmyeon’s hands are. The latter nods. “Let’s sleep right after?”
“I love you.”
“That’s not the answer to my question,” Kyungsoo says sharply, raising a brow at Junmyeon. Then he smiles. “But yes, I love you, too.”
