Dave's current situation is a lot like #2, and his disposition is a lot like yours... it's great as long as it's good, but when shit goes to hell, there are ALWAYS people ganging up and forming alliances whenever there's an apartment dispute. Yuck. Dave wishes he could do #1, but then again he's of a taciturn, unsocial disposition sometimes and roommates don't always understand the need to sometimes be on one's own locked in one's own room.
I'm just putting off packing for Argentina and saw this... I would definitely go for #2. Moving to an entirely new state is going to be isolating in itself and being around people is going to expand your horizons. It'll be nice to have that company around, and it seems like it's a place that--if it works out--you could stay in (and afford) for a while. I know a lot of people living in situations like that and things generally seem to work out. Of course there are always minor tiffs about dishes and things like that, but you're nice and respectful so I don't think you'll have that much drama! AND, the deal-maker: DOGS!! :) :) best of luck!!! let's get together sometime.
