Jinhyeong can't decide which one is worse. The fact that he has blue paint in his hair or the fact that he still has an empty canvas. He sighs, putting his paintbrush down and plopping into his seat.

He looks at Junhwe, who's seated next to him, delicately applying shades of green onto his canvas.

When given the assignment a week ago, Junhwe was quick to jot down ideas into his nifty sketchbook. The rest of the class, including Jinhyeong, simply groaned at the thought of another assignment.

"The theme is on 'difference'. I expect a short write-up with your assignment as well. You may use mixed media for this one." Mr Kim had said, as he passed around the details for the project.

Suddenly, Jinhyeong regretted switching to art. Maybe accounts wouldn't have been so bad after all.

"Hey, why the long face?" Junhwe smiles, shifting his stool closer to Jinhyeong's.

"This is why." Jinhyeong nudges towards his easel and his blank canvas. He half expects Junhwe to laugh or to even scold him for not being serious but he only nods, licking his lips.

"I see... Jinhyeong, what is art to you?"

"Um, an easier option than accounting?"

"Hmm, okay. That's a pretty sensible answer. Okay, now what's difference to you?"

"Difference? Doing something out of the norm? Non-typicality? Contrasting ideas?"

That's when an idea hit him, a wide smile slowly spreading on his face. Junhwe laughs, patting him on the shoulder.

"Thanks, Junhwe."

"I did nothing though, all credits go to you." Junhwe replies, going back to his work.

Jinhyeong doesn't reply, working out his ideas on a piece of paper.

-

"Junhwe-ah, how do you draw the backdrop? I can't seem to get it right." Jinhyeong sighs in frustration, his lips forming a pout.

"Cute, Jinnie." Junhwe ruffles Jinhyeong's hair and Jinhyeong slaps his arm away. Junhwe drags his stool next to Jinhyeong's and scrutinizes his work. He grabs his own brush from his easel and gets to work.

"What did you call me?" Jinhyeong squints at Junhwe, watching as he mixes the black paint with white. Junhwe smiles, his eyes forming crescents as he dips his brush into the grayish mixture.

"Jinnie." He replies, his eyes never leaving the canvas as he helps Jinhyeong blend in his colours. Jinhyeong chuckles, leaning closer to observe how Junhwe moves his brush with practiced fluidity.

"My parents don't even call me that."

"Does this mean that I can call you that then?" Junhwe replies and  pauses as Jinhyeong takes the brush from his hand to try blending it by himself.

Junhwe takes in the way Jinhyeong struggles to produce pretty strokes on the canvas, his tongue peeking out from between his lips in pure concentration. Junhwe wonders if Jinhyeong had always been this pretty.

"We'll see, June." Jinhyeong turns to face Junhwe, a cheeky grin on his face.

"June huh?" Junhwe laughs, shaking his head lightly.

"Why? I like that name." Jinhyeong frowns before proceeding to complete the backdrop.

I like you, Junhwe wants to reply but the words rest on the tip of his tongue, coming to a standstill.

He probably shouldn't.

"There, all good." Jinhyeong smiles, satisfied at the end product. Junhwe ruffles his hair before dragging his stool to his spot again. He tries to ignore the way his heart slams against his chest repetitively.

"June?"

"Hm?" Junhwe looks to his side, and Jinhyeong's fiddling with the brush in his hand, looking adorable as ever.

"Your brush?"

"You can have it."

"Really? You're the best."

"I know." Junhwe smiles smugly.

Jinhyeong rolls his eyes at him but laughs anyway.

-

"Thanks for submitting your work on time everyone. Also, there will be an art exhibition in town this weekend and the school's bringing all of you there. This letter has all the information you need. I really hope all of you will come because it's a very enriching experience." Mr Kim gives out the letters while the usually quiet class bursts with excitement.

Jinhyeong nudges Junhwe and smiles when the other boy looks at him.

"You're going right?" Jinhyeong asks excitedly, smiling from ear to ear. Junhwe chuckles at his enthusiasm, nodding in reply.

"Okay good. I had to make sure I had a seat partner in the bus this Saturday."

"Hey!" Junhwe smacks him in the arm and Jinhyeong laughs out loud.

"Just kidding! It's fun to get you all riled up." Jinhyeong smears green
paint on to Junhwe's cheek with the pad of his thumb. Junhwe gasps, before coating Jinhyeong's cheek with a shade of red using his brush.

The two stop before Mr Kim kicks them out but find themselves laughing at each other by the time lesson ends.

"You got paint in my hair." Jinhyeong grumbles in the toilet later and Junhwe laughs, wetting a washcloth in the sink.

"Come here."

Jinhyeong moves closer to Junhwe and was slightly taken aback when Junhwe cups his face with his palm, wiping the paint off his face gently. He takes the opportunity to appreciate Junhwe's dashing good looks. He has really beautiful eyes, Jinhyeong mentally notes. Junhwe's palm felt warm against his cheek and Jinhyeong felt his head spinning. Just what was he feeling?

"There, you're handsome again, Jinnie." Junhwe smiles and Jinhyeong can't help but miss the warmth of Junhwe's palm when he pulls back.

-

"Jinhyeong you're supposed to take off your bag you idiot, no wonder it's so squeezy." Junhwe pinches his thigh and Jinhyeong grimaces in pain.

The two were crammed in the mini bus, with the other students. Mr Kim was busy doing a head count while the other students were creating a ruckus. Mino was screeching at the top of his lungs because he saw a dead cockroach while Bobby records the whole thing on his phone, sniggering with Yunhyeong at the back. Seungyoon brought a ukelele and was playing "count on me" for the 69th time that day, while Taehyun jams to it, nodding his head in tune. Jinhyeong and Junhwe were the calmer bunch, minding their own business.

"My bag isn't even that big, I think it's cause you're fat."

"I hate you." Junhwe spits it out with fire in his eyes but Jinhyeong doesn't buy it.

"That's not even half true." Jinhyeong sticks out his tongue and Junhwe pulls the bill of Jinhyeong's cap down so that it covers his entire face.

Junhwe hates how Jinhyeong was always right.

"Let's take selfies! I don't have a photo with you." Jinhyeong bounces in his seat, pulling at Junhwe's arm playfully.

"Are you like...a girl or something?"

"Come on! The lighting's really good here." Jinhyeong adjusts his hat, nettled by how it doesn't look good on him. He looks at Junhwe and pulls his cap over Junhwe's head instead.

"Woah, you look really good in a cap!"

"I know." Junhwe deadpans, that all too familiar self-satisfied smirk on his lips again. Jinhyeong glares, hitting him the chest.

"A thank you would be nice, you know?"

"Okay, okay. Thank you Jinnie."

"See? Okay let's take a photo! One, two, three!"

The recording sound comes out instead of the normal click and Jinhyeong looks puzzled while Junhwe laughs until tears brim his eyes.

They took a video instead of a selfie, thanks to Jinhyeong's dumbness.

-

"We're here!" Jinhyeong exclaims, hopping off the bus. Junhwe finds himself smiling at Jinhyeong's child-like behavior, his heart doing that jump thing again.

"Hey, stick with the group you idiot!" Junhwe calls out, grabbing Jinhyeong's arm.

"How do I  stick? I don't have any glue." Jinhyeong wiggles his eyebrows and Junhwe rolls his eyes.

"Ha ha, really funny. Come on!"

The exhibition was on pop art and how it has impacted the world. Jinhyeong likes it. He likes art. It used to be meaningless to him but now art has a special place in his heart. It's a mean of expression, a way to reveal his feelings and true emotions, and he's sort of hooked to it. Like how he's hooked to Junhwe.

Halfway through the exhibition, Jinhyeong decides to lace their fingers together, telling Junhwe that he didn't want to get lost. Junhwe only smiles in reply, clutching his hand tighter.

Jinhyeong doesn't really question the feeling of Junhwe's hand in his. It's a nice  feeling. It has him feeling all warm and fuzzy and he think he can get used to this. He can get used to Junhwe's smiles and his straight face when he's annoyed. He can get used to the smell of Junhwe's cologne, light traces of it ending up on his shirt from when they're very close to each other. He can get used to Junhwe's vanity and self-obsession and the fact that Junhwe always has to check his hair every odd second. He can get used to Junhwe and that's kind of bad. Because Junhwe might not feel the same way.

"What's on your mind, Jinnie?" Junhwe asks, slinging an arm around him.

You, Jinhyeong wants to say that but he doesn't.

"Nothing, I'm quiet tired, that's all." He smiles tiredly.

"I'd be tired too if I ran around the museum like that." Junhwe chuckles.

"And here I am, thinking that you're trying to make me feel better." Jinhyeong groans.

"I am! Here, I got this for you." Junhwe replies, handing him a bar of chocolate.

"Aw, ever so thoughtful, June. Thanks!" Jinhyeong says, pinching his cheek playfully. Junhwe flinches, swatting his hand away.

"Don't mention it, let's board the bus! The rest are already there."

Jinhyeong nods, hand automatically reaching out for Junhwe's.

For a moment, he saw Junhwe looking at their hands in confusion, but Junhwe shrugs it off, pulling him closer, and somehow, Jinhyeong feels relieved.

-

"Want me to walk you home?" Junhwe offers and Jinhyeong nods. God, this feels weird but he really enjoys Junhwe's company.

It has always been nothing but harmless flirting between the two of them. Their affection for each other was pretty obvious to everyone else except the two of them.

"Jinhyeong? Can I ask you something?"

Jinhyeong stills, his heart racing in his chest. All the flirting and tension has finally built up to this. He nods, biting his lower lip nervously. Junhwe stops walking and Jinhyeong stops as well, looking at him in anticipation. Junhwe grabs Jinhyeong's hands, holding them in his. Junhwe caresses his knuckles with his thumbs and  inhales a deep breath. Jinhyeong wants to tell him that it'd okay, but he stops himself.

"What are we?" Junhwe starts, mustering the courage to look  Jinhyeong in the eye. The silence was uncomfortable and Jinhyeong loathed it. He clutches on to Junhwe's hands.

"We are whatever you want us to be." Jinhyeong smiles shyly, meeting Junhwe's gaze. Junhwe shakes his head.

"I want to be more than friends, Jinhyeong."

"I know." Jinhyeong replies, worrying his lower lip into his mouth.

Junhwe scrunches his eyebrows in confusion.

“No, I don’t want to be your best friend or bff, Jinhyeong. I want to hold your hand in public and I want to go on cheap ass dates with you, I want to spoil you, I want to hug you and god I want to kiss you damn it!” He blabbers and Jinhyeong only chuckles, making Junhwe even more crossed.

“So do it.” He replies, inching closer to Junhwe.

And this has got to be the only time where Jinhyeong actually appreciates their height difference because Junhwe looks beautiful like this. His bangs covering his eyes a little, his eyes shining with a mixture of fear and enigma, his lips soft and slightly parted.

“Kiss me.” Jinhyeong mutters before leaning in, his eyes fluttering shut.

Junhwe smiles so hard, his cheeks hurt. He presses their lips together and Junhwe wonders why he didn’t have the guts to do this earlier. The kiss was short, but it was enough. It summarized all of their unexplained words, thoughts and desires.

"I've always liked you, you know? Ever since you transferred to art, I was waiting for a chance to talk to you." Junhwe starts after a few seconds of silence. Jinhyeong laughs, brushing his thumb over Junhwe’s knuckles.

"I like you too... so much, you were just too blind to notice."

"Really now? Since when?"

"Ever since you gave me your brush?" Jinhyeong chuckles, scratching the back of his head.

"You're an idiot."

Jinhyeong smiles when  Junhwe pulls him into a warm embrace.

When they pull back, Junhwe ruffles Jinhyeong's hair and Jinhyeong giggles.

"I really like you." Jinhyeong mutters, cupping Junhwe's cheek lightly with his palm.

Junhwe smiles, nodding.

"I know."
