It is ultimately inscrutable, resulting as it does from essentially chaotic systems colliding with each other. The whole thing has been a ponzi scheme from start to finish. The Madoff's and Stanford's are fall guys to distract you from the real truth that you will never get in MSM. But, if you care to know, there is a place to go, and it starts in the broker dealer, finance, stocks, alpha margins, swaps - you name it, blogosphere. These guys work in the business and they love telling you how it was really worked. It has a double effect for them, they they show off how smart they are for making easy money, and it helps them sleep at night - by assuaging what little guilt they have for ripping everyone off with the consoling thought that, at least, they told somebody the truth
