I regularly podcast Studio 360 on NPR.  I think that it is a great program.  Studio 360 has brought me to all sorts of cultural "tidbits" that I never would have heard of had I not listened.  Last week I was listening to an interview with George Dawes Green about his new book.  You can hear it here.  I must say that I have never read any of Mr. ( Read more... )

Thanks for finally letting the world know what a great mind you have by blogging! I so agree with you. Since the incept of the Internet, there has been "isolationist" ramblings...but like you I believe social networking forms new communites--worldwide communities that never existed before. Instead of being "just Dallasites, just Texans, just Americans" we can now be worldwide community members. I'm such a Pollyanna (and you're right, you're far from Boo Radley, though he was a nice guy) I still believe we can teach the world to sing in perfect harmony...Ha, did I just show my age? Thanks for the great posters for my daughter...care package being gathered as we speak! Can't wait to read your next entry!

Wow--once you got going you had so much to say. And you said it so eloquently! I'd add that I think the demise of traditional communities was under way long before the advent of online communities. Sometimes I think being online reminds us how to be neighborly as we take care what we say to others and rember that the whole world might be reading.

Gosh thanks a lot guys! I'm glad to know that I was able to get out what I was trying to say. I tend to get a little lost in this head of mine.

I'll try to think of things to write about more often. I haven't posted since Feb. although it looks like Sam posted one from the lj app on my phone when I was not looking. D'oh!

I can't promise that I'll have interesting things to say, but with encouragement like this, I shall try!
