Were you to rent a canal boat in France in late September, would you go for a week on the Charente, the Lot, or the western Canal du Midi?  Serious and whimsical recommendations welcome.  Gastronomic advice should be aimed at modest budgets.

oo! the lot!!! fois gras and little tiny goat cheeses and chestnut honey and cuckoos calling in the trees..... and really really really good wine. get to Cahors if you can at all....
