Wait till they get a load of the best player from South Central. Too bad they wont set up a doubles area. Imma see what I can do to get airtime because I'm too good for TV ^_^

As far as the actual DDR "scene" goes, it's certainly nowhere as big as it was during the beginning of this decade, nor will it ever be that big again. Still, there are players getting into the game all the time, and some people that still enjoy playing for fun. I'm sure that a number of people that are jumping at the chance to be a part of this event aren't really active players anymore, but would still love to be a part of a world record relating to a game that they once took very seriously.
