The title of Proposition 8 is "Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry."

I can't believe anyone actually sees eliminating rights as something that's not completely fucked up, especially when we're in the year 2008.

Neither can I, but the unfortunate conclusion I eventually come to is always the same: we live among a whole lot of stupid people, and it's those people who try and fuck it up for the rest of us by voting in favor of such measures because they just don't know any better. Fucking backwards-thinkers.

I wish those people would stop mucking up the gene pool. :(

I still have faith that 8 will fail. We'll see soon enough.

Mainly because the state already voted to do this, then by a 4-3 vote the CA court judges reversed the decision, and now the state has to do it again to overrule the judges.

Well, there are a few propositions this election that aim to eliminate rights; this is one of them. Eliminating rights is not fucked up if you do it to the right people ;P

the problem is determining who the "right" people are.

I'm not sure I agree with you there, but either way, gay people are not the "right" people. Taking away someone's right just because of their sexual orientation, or even wanting to, is downright sick -- and if there is such a thing as the right kind of people to take rights away from, it's the people who would deny others their rights. Give 'em a nice, healthy dose of their own medicne. Let's take away the freedom to practice one's own religion away from all the conservative Christians and Catholics who want to discriminate against gay people and see how that makes them feel.

... you know, that actually sounds like an overwhelmingly fantastic idea. I just wish it could actually happen.

But again, the obvious conclusion is to not take personal rights away from specific groups of people at all and realize that, hey, we found out that arbitrary discrimination wasn't the answer way back during the civil rights movement... huh, funny that. People are so fucking stupid sometimes.
