This vacation that I'm taking down here in SD was long overdue. This is a nice break from school, a nice break from work, and a nice break from a bunch of drama that has been dumped on me over the past couple of days. Methinks I'll be something of a hermit for the next several days while I recharge ( Read more... )

To answer your question about platformers: we disagree on this, but I thought Super Mario Galaxy was every bit as good (better, probably) than Super Mario 64. I'm not sure how I would compare it with Banjo-Kazooie though, that's a toughie...

To answer your question about FPSes: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Enough fucking said. I generally don't like and am not any good at FPSes, and CoD 4 is the only FPS since GoldenEye that I loved enough to get and log a considerable amount of time into. It's that good. The only thing discouraging me from playing it online more is that I hardly stand a chance against anyone. :P

There are plenty of contemporary games that are every bit as good as the classics, but not only do the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia make it seem otherwise, your gaming tastes also change as you grow up. When I was younger, there was little better to me than a new Square JRPG to sink 50+ hours into. 1: the new Ratchet and Clank is supposed to be good, Okami is an amazing platformer as well.
2: Deus Ex, but it's PC. came out a long time ago also. Call of Duty 4 is really good as well. Stealth can play a big part in how you play if you want.

Is there a 3D platformer that is as good as the N64's best platformers yet?

You've played Mario Galaxy, RIGHT!?

The Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie are probably my favorite games ever. I just played through BK again for the first time in years over the summer and got all the notes and puzzle pieces. My BT got sold by a friend's sister, which made me sad. But yeah-64 has some amazing games :P
