Final Myanthea event was this past weekend, which was also my final NERO event. Was a fantastic event, epic and occasionally heart-wrenching and funny and just all around awesome. Complimented the staff after the event on the *pacing* of the event, which is an odd thing, I think, to focus on, but it really was fantastic.
- having an NPC come up to me during the first (extremely rough) fight and attempt to explain to me the mechanic for ending it, only every time I turned away from the fight to try to listen to him, the three people I was keeping an eye on would fall over, causing me to abandon said NPC to run over to heal them before heading back to try to finish the briefing. Also, Martimus slaying something with a dagger. :)
- the Arani of the Ice Elves walking up to me and saying, "I know I promised that I wouldn't involve you in politics, but I need to ask you something..." and then being super happy to be able to be completely honest and enthusiastic about the answer.
- attempting to explain my vague theories on the creation of bodies to the creepy, creepy bloody-eyed guy.
- "I don't think I actually have to be the one to carry this dagger, do you want it?"
"Are you sure that you don't have to be the one to do it?"
"I can't think of any reason why it would have to be me..." :hands over the dagger to Martimus, thinks on it for about thirty seconds while Martimus watches: "Um... actually I can think of a reason why it might need to be me."
"I thought so." :Martimus hands the dagger back:
- Sarah's little cultist clubbing someone over the back of the head with a large rock. Also, the entire game grinding to a halt for 20 minutes so we could do storytime with the Titan book. (Also, PRETTY PICTURE! EEEEEE!)
- Jayson getting an awesome answer to his letter that impacted the story in ways we couldn't have anticipated. :)
- Getting waylaid in the fire-elf fight. That hasn't happened to me in forever.
- the departure of the Sessai from Myanthea, which was awful at the time but so awesome overall. (Also, the Sunday morning conversation with Sarah's little slave (ex-slave? Ish?) was awesome.
- The Tricker's name becoming unexpectedly important.
- A'ten stopping by to ask that I explain what he was about to do to Ivan and Kade, and unsuccessfully trying to find an unoccupied corner to cry in.
- Lasitus coming up with a crazy application for one of my wierder transform abilities that ended up being super useful against the Leviathan! :-D
- Crazy long final fight, with 3 or 4 mods being hooked off of it while we continued to fight, interrupted by two *different* field fights (which was kinda awesome, it was a nice break to what was otherwise a long grind). Gosh we ran out of a lot of stuff. At one point our healing was down to Rustell with a bit of healing, me casting healing pools, and Marina putting up bolt storms to heal our fire-oriented people. Three people resurrected (and it was very nearly a half-dozen more thanks to a long string of people attempting to rescue each other), one of the resurrections permed... and it just kept going. And then I became unable to miss the mummy. Screw you, mummy. (Also, bless whoever came up with the 'putting a heater on the field' plan.)
- the dawning realization/horror as I realized that no really, we're going to do the 'rebuilding-the-body-of-the-king' thing now and I have to THINK after the field fight. Also, making the right call about how to reconstruct some of the bodies, and the horrified looks Marina and Alle were giving me at various points of the process. I really need something to cut things with that *isn't* my pretty white weapon... (Also, sorta surreptitiously checking out the king the next morning to see if Omi had done a good job...)
- sitting with Cynnir in the morning just hanging out/talking, because neither of us is capable of sleeping in, and Ivan coming in in the best mood I've ever seen him ever, having been 'cleansed' by the Phoenix the night before. It sort of restored Omi's faith that good things *can* happen to people who are trying to be good/better themselves. Was awesome and really meaningful, and I didn't expect it to hit me like that.
- Drake's tower being attacked. Drake realizing 5 seconds before he walked in the door that Ghosthunter was the thing attacking. Ghosthunter's epic march towards us, followed by the anime fight with Sage, ending with Ghosthunter punching his way out of the world. Just a fantastic scene overall.
- Awesome end scenes with ALL the NPCs stopping by (though I felt very bad for Sarah having to go from Ice Elf to Dark-elf in one morning). And the final scene with the king reorganizing the noble structure. Also getting called out by Marina and made guildmistress. Just cool all around.
- "I am an expert on awkward silences. You see, you/" :insert silence:
She took the place of soldiers in the line, so they could rest or take a drink of water, or fix their armor. She stood shoulder to shoulder with soldiers, then tended to the wounded, then stepped into the breach again. No one who didn’t watch her constantly would appreciate the depth of her service. The soldier appreciated the break, the wounded appreciated the healing, each soldier appreciated the moment of her service.
But sitting on my perch, watching the army, I appreciated the depth of her service. Moment led to moment, service led to service, in an endless chain of selfless support that wrapped and protected the army of Myanthea.
Omi showed dedication and service.
And with that service, Myanthea would rise.
I'm sad to be leaving NERO behind, made a lot of amazing friends there, and there are a fair number of people who I won't get to see much of (if at all) now. But am super happy with my last several events, and with where Omi was when the game ended. It was a good spot for 'retirement'. I can very easily picture her being super busy for pretty much the rest of her life, helping give advice on the Icewood and rebuilding the guilds in Myanthea. "Where is Omi?" "Oh, she's in her homeland super busy rebuilding..."
Of course, it isn't the end of her story, which I also am super pleased about. Omi is probably somewhat less pleased, she was super happy at the end of Myanthea with how much work she had in front of her and with what kind of work it is (she likes keeping busy), but she'll live. :)
Yay!
