Cottington Woods highlights

Had a good time at Cottington Woods. Was very nervous going into it, with not getting the rulebook until three days before the event, new team, new site for the staff (again!), having a character that's so outside of my normal archetype, and with not-so-awesome weather on the way. Should not have worried so much. Had a really good time, and ( Read more... )

The game sounds wonderful. Conceptually I'd say the staff really hit the mark. The stories and ideas and characterizations just make me want to go play so much.

They really did hit what they were aiming at. :)

- helping to decode the golem maker's journal. Really challenging phoenetic code (which I love), and the story was just awful. It was great to be struggling to interpret some of the symbols, have it become clear, and go straight from 'ha! got it!'

I really commend you for working out the variety of codes that staff puts out at games you play. And I loved when Trev was describing the info you learned from the journal to Shalott, and you said "And we learned all that awfulness *slowly* as we decoded it." Because having to read it slowly, word by word, is the worst.

- making fire, and having *that* be what what caused people to start referring to me as 'the scout'. Also, fire!

This amuses me because it's so you. :)

It really is, and it's one of the reasons I like codes so much. There's something about having to really *work* at it to get the story, bit by bit, that just makes it more impactful.

And me having fun playing with fire? Never. ;)

It sounds like everyone had a great time and are playing really different characters than I'm used to seeing! The concept for Cottington really intrigues me and sounds really interesting.

Inquiring minds want to know, what did you do to your head?

Yeah, this is really the game where a lot of us are playing counter to what we normally do. Much of our team's unifying theme is 'gimped for concept'.

Trevelen's hair is... um... special? Kinda hard to describe. All my hair is bound up into a crown around my head... and then I tie it in place with a half-dozen scraps of fabric/ribbon that hang down off of the crown and flop around my head and face a lot. From the front you can't see my hair at all, and from any angle the hair is pretty well obscured by the random ribbons/fabric. It also has the entertaining side effect of drastically changing the shape of my head when I put a hood on... someone was comparing it to... um... I think it was Elizabethan hats? Something like that.

That sounds fascinating. Is there by any chance a picture?

Hmmm. The only picture I have doesn't really give you a great angle on the hair (I added it to the original post).

Will try to get someone to do a decent picture of my hair next time I do it.
