I don't see how anyone can take Hagee seriously. Besides the fact the man is seriously heterodox when it comes to the mere essentials of evanglical orthodoxy...he also looks like Porky Pig's elder uncle who took too much speed.
I do love, however, your point. When he does go off on such things...I look at him and think: "Dude, put down the fork and start considering salads! Man, you're talking about the sins of lust-they exist, don't get me wrong-but when was the last time you were able to see your genitalia?!"
*According to some "evangelicals," I'm nothing more than a "bread worshipin' Mary lover" anyhow and not a Christian so I shouldn't even have to make this obligatory post.
Yeah, I've been having to argue with them over LJ lately >_
I haven't had a good row with an evangelicious type in quite some time. Frankly, I like it like that. Besides, they've got enough on their hands-with "Word Faith" taking over their movement by the Joel Osteens of the world...they've got plenty to deal with. A little ol' pseudo papist like myself gets a break, I suppose.
I haven't either lately. And I really don't like it, I actually think the Charity and love go before the other stuff, but some people just don't have the right attitudes or even know much about what they talk about...
Just have to pray for them and educate myself more in order to defend my faith, something I had never tried to do before until recently. Ignorance was blissful dealing with them in the past.
Its beginnings trace back to an early twentieth century evangelical pastor, E.W. Kenyon (1867-1948), who preached that God would award financial and other gifts if the faithful would ask.
What the heck? I'm in the middle of studying the scriptures that talk about suffering (and allude to purgatory) and they are in direct conflict with a doctrine like that. Romans 8, 1 Peter 4 and all that. Through suffering comes sanctification, and they prove the "Gospel of Health and Wealth" to be bogus. Those suffering a purgatory on earth and going through God's trials are the ones sharing inheritance with Christ. The comfortable fat cats are the ones that need to watch out.
