Summary: It's not his fault.
Jung Dae Hyun is whole-heartedly convinced that this can't be normal.
No, he's quite certain that this borderline-creepy fixation of his is anything but.
He can only thank the deities that the other has yet to catch on to his rather recurrent glances. And if by glances, he means the customarily blatant staring with no shame whatsoever, then Dae Hyun supposes that would be just as fitting.
Although, all things being equal, Dae Hyun doesn't think he's entirely at fault here.
No, in fact he's quite convinced that a certain individual (with stupid doe-eyed orbs that he swears can bring the most vehement criminal to his knees) is the main reason behind his rather out-of-character behavior.
Fate must have been playing a perverse joke on him the day it decided to throw Yoo Young Jae into his life.
It's because of that damn Young Jae, with his childlike expressions and trusting nature that Dae Hyun swears he has lost a few years of his life.
True, he had resented the other at their first meeting. After all, he was supposed to be B.A.P.'s one and only leading vocalist.
Who was this clueless looking boy, with innocent eyes that glistened too brightly for his liking, to take some of his thunder away?
Oh, he was displeased with the other’s presence alright.
And he had been determined to dislike the boy for the rest of his career, as long as the other continued to carry the title of a lead vocalist.
But no.
Fate just had to be a difficult bitch and shatter his resolutions.
Because Young Jae just had to look at Dae Hyun with those obnoxiously round, bright eyes and a painstakingly radiant smile, and the main vocalist knew he was doomed.
It didn't help that the moment Young Jae opened his mouth to sing, Dae Hyun felt as though the other had cut off a piece of his soul, dipped it in all the beauty and tenderness that existed in the world, and returned it to his body.
Dae Hyun thinks that he had begun to understand then, why Young Jae was cast as lead vocalist.
Yes. It's because of that naïve boy, with his puppy dog face and a beautiful smile (that honestly took his breath away), that Dae Hyun has felt his world topple over.
His cold façade that had been erected around others had begun to waver with Young Jae's presence.
Dae Hyun was aware of his appeal.
To outsiders, he was the charming but reserved individual.
Cool, stunning, and unbelievably likeable, but always somewhat untouchable. And perhaps that had been management's agenda from the start. Or at least that's what they liked to tell themselves when they assumed that disposition was an act.
Dae Hyun considered himself fairly detached from everyone and everything else. That was what he preferred.
Which is why he couldn't comprehend how someone like Yoo Young Jae had managed to slither past his defenses and establish a small place in his heart.
The others had told him that he possessed a soft spot for the lead vocalist.
Dae Hyun had not denied it.
Because of Young Jae, he has become irrational, frustrated (in more ways than one), obsessive, and perhaps a tad too softhearted for his liking.
He always tried to ignore the faint flutter in his chest with Young Jae's presence. The younger male had a tendency to sport the widest grin imaginable whenever they were around each other (did his facial muscles never tire out?).
Dae Hyun couldn't decide what he thought of it. To be honest, it did strange things to his heart and he didn't care for that.
Also, the fact that Young Jae seemed to beam so lustrously (so beautifully) for others- people other than Dae Hyun- didn't sit too well with him.
Though it was to be expected, with the other's kind-hearted nature, his easygoing attitude. It's inevitable that Young Jae would share his cheerfulness with others.
Still.
Dae Hyun is thoroughly persuaded that Young Jae's smile should always be reserved for his eyes only.
Though, Dae Hyun can't deny that he possesses certain bragging rights of his own, as his assessing eyes shift back towards Young Jae sitting tranquilly on the couch (Back to his blatant staring).
The other seems to be enclosed within his own reality, his nose stuck so closely to the book that Dae Hyun's convinced the two will soon meld together.
Jong Up is seated next to Young Jae, seemingly desperate for his hyung's attention. Dae Hyun's sharp eyes don't miss the way the main dancer's fingers seem to be enclosed around Young Jae's wrist as he attempts to gain his attention.
Young Jae doesn't budge, and Jong Up pouts irritably before his eyes dart across the room, meeting Dae Hyun's impassive ones.
It sends a chill up Jong Up's spine.
He catches the main vocalists' eyes shifting down to his fingers around Young Jae's arm and back up to his eyes, gaze still as blank.
That's sufficient for Jong Up to relinquish his hold on the lead vocalist, quickly muttering his reason for leaving before darting from his seat and evacuating the room in a somewhat flustered manner.
A slight smirk graces Dae Hyun's lips, and he feels strangely victorious.
His eyes drift back towards Young Jae, who remains absorbed in his story.
As though sensing the other's stare, however, Young Jae finally glances up. He meets Dae Hyun's piercing gaze before he glances to his right, brows suddenly furrowing in confusion.
'Eh?' He mutters confusedly. 'Hyung, wasn't Jong Up just here a moment ago?'
Dae Hyun can't help the small smile from slipping across his features. Young Jae has always been a bit 4D-ish.
'He left, Young Jae-ah. Someone was just too misplaced in their own world to notice.' Dae Hyun chuckles lightly, obsidian orbs crinkling in mirth.
Young Jae looks genuinely affronted for a few moments, before a light pout forms on his lips.
Dae Hyun will never admit that he finds the image incredibly endearing.
'Yah, Dae Hyun-ah, you're always picking on me.'
Dae Hyun laughs softly in response, gazing attentively at Young Jae's scrunched up features.
'Wae? Does that bother you, Young Jae-ah?'
The other male looks up at him, carefully considering the query for a moment before slowly shaking his head.
'Aniyo.' Young Jae replies softly, his eyes doing that twinkling thing again that Dae Hyun hates (adores) so much. 'If its hyung, then it's ok with me.'
That smile returns, so radiant- so genuine. Young Jae's eyes remind him of glimmering crescent moons.
Dae Hyun wonders if it's possible to fall even more in like with someone.
Young Jae grins happily before blinking cutely, redirecting his attention to the book in his hand.
Dae Hyun continues observing (staring), eyes greedily taking in the traces of that smile lingering on the edge of the other's lips.
Yes.
Dae Hyun certainly has particular bragging rights indeed.
He won't mention how, even though Young Jae seems to be a bundle of sunshine around everyone else, the lead vocalist seems to smile just a little more frequently- a little wider- for him. He won't mention that Young Jae has the tendency to cling to Dae Hyun slightly more than the other members, tends to relish his presence a bit more than the others’. He won't mention the way Young Jae's chocolate brown orbs seem to crinkle in delight, lighting up the slightest bit whenever Dae Hyun is around.
No. Those things Dae Hyun will continue to keep to himself, refusing to share with others his reason for that smug grin plastered across his lips every once in a while.
Because that side of Young Jae-
Well, that's something that only Dae Hyun gets to see.
A/N: It feels weird writing about a pairing in which both members are younger than me... but I find Dae Hyun and Young Jae kinda cute together. In that innocent, puppy-love kind of way. haha I think writing about anything else would make me feel like a pedo o_0 anywho, thanks for reading!
