Question

Jan 14, 2009 12:03

Can I take the exhaust hose from the dryer and vent it into the heat system for the winter?*
I hate losing that lovely moist warmth... oh, speaking of- time to move the flannel underpants into the dryer...

---------------------
*Not really likely, since I may be moving shortly, but in this frigid cold, tempting.

footnotes are fun

do it easy
Disconnect from outside
cover old exit[ to keep out cold air]
place old stocking over end of vent tubing to catch lint
My father vented outside during summer and inside during winter
We vent to the cellar all year

"$#!%, THAT'S ALL??"

Done in fine minutes with a screwdriver, a torn cushion in a couple plastic grocery bags, a barely used heater filter and two rubber bands.

What's next?

(I'm wishing all problems could be so easily dealt with...)

forgot to say, I also spritzed the filter with clove essential oil, so I was able to warm my hands in the sweet-smelling air before coming up the stairs :D

It's probably worth a cautionary note here that venting the dryer into a house can cause an excess of moisture. If it's being vented into an already damp basement then you might want to especially rethink things. Also, you'll want to be dang sure that you put an ADDITIONAL filter to collect all the fibers which would otherwise be blown outside.

Mmm... now I'm trying to pin the face to the LJ name... we did meet over the weekend, non?

But yes- that was a temporary thing, only during the worst cold, and I did take the blue fiber glass part of the heater filter out of the cardboard frame and rubber band it around the end of the dryer vent hose. It is an exceedingly squelchy, nasty basement now that it is warmer and the rain trickles in. I should really wear a mask down there, as I sometimes have trouble breathing afterwards, despite all the allergy stuff I take. Hopefully soon there will be healthier living arrangements!

Ah ok, you are taking steps then. Good. It does sound like some more steps might be prudent if you're going to be in/around/above the space as these things only get worse once they get started. ;-)
No, we didn't meet on the weekend... I saw your comment on much_ado's journal and poked about... Hope that's ok. Feel free to ask her about me, I'm sure that she'll bent your ear. LOL
Best!

Oh, GOOD- it wasn't just alcohol blur then ;)

I am somewhat familiar with your LJ name, along with many of the regulars on [info]much_ado's posts... and over the weekend I met several of the faces, however I'm still a bit fuzzy on the links between the two.

No problem at all- I have yet to be anything other than impressed with Arnora's people, (well, and other pleasant things) always good to find a new friend!

Also, I do have a large jug of industrial bleach my landlord left and a spray bottle downstairs... but I hate to use it. Bad for the environment, and I feel like I should have a haz-mat suit and respirator.
