Why do we pray in Jesus' name? What does that mean? For christians? For me?

i've been thinking about that on and off for a couple of years now. nothing i've thought of has satisfied me. i think saying the words, "in jesus' name" is for our benefit - to feel like we have authority because it's been given to us. i think we have authority because the divine resides in us.
