When the millennium began, I was at home with my then-boyfriend. We cooked dinner (cause in college that seemed like an enjoyable experience whereas now it's a gotta-eat-to-live kind of thing) and watched the new year celebration hit across Europe all afternoon and then it happened on the east coast. Nothing blew up and the Y2K crap was exposed as just that - crap.
In 2000, I turned 21 and became single for the first time in years. I got to the classes in college that were fun and teaching centered and my worktime doubled instead of halved like all my non-teaching major friends! We moved into on campus apartments and took lots of trips. We drove to Rehobeth in the middle of the night because didn't know it was hours away. Then, a road trip to Nashville to see Kyle & Friends (and desecrate the manger scene at Opryland Hotel.) Kyle took a plane trip to see us and we saw BNL twice in a short time. Wow we were busy! Alaska bought us alcohol. I almost forgot that. How could I though - it was on tape!
In 2001, we went on another road trip - this time we stopped at Virginia Tech to see Peter and Kiliaen, then down to Nashville to see Kyle again, and then hopped over to Myrtle Beach. That was a fun trip too. The summer was a little insane. I got kidnapped and taken to Niagara Falls for my birthday, where we discovered fantabulous things such as Iniskillin ice wine and jet boating on rivers. We drove to Toronto and had ice cream sundaes in the Sky Dome. It was still called the Sky Dome. I made bad choices in there, somewhere. :) In the fall I student taught which also had its own insane moments. We moved into a real apartment. At some point we owned and accidentally killed hamsters with alcoholic names. I got a job before I graduated. Take that current day graduates!
In 2002, I graduated and started being a media specialist. My friends all graduated from college. I got my own apartment, all by my lonesome. My friends came to my parents house to take me to dinner for my birthday as a surprise. I went to visit Lisa at her Florida house and got to go to WDW. TJ got us tickets to see the Ravens from the club level a couple times.
In 2003, I was a bridesmaid in Kyle's wedding on New Years Day. I visited Lisa at WDW again. I went to Atlantis as Sarah's date for her work vacation. We swam with dolphins. There was a huge snowstorm over Valentines/President's Day weekend that got us off school for a week. I bought a house. I went to Chicago with my dad, London with my parents, the beach with Lorraine and her family, Ohio to see Suzanne, and Beth's wedding. It was a busy year. I got Moose!
In 2004, I joined Meetin and met lots of new friends. My mom found out she had a brain tumor which was operated on and fixed. I turned 25. I went to Vegas with 25 friends from college, high school, current day and all of their friends. We got a limo and drove to California. Boys peed in the desert. Oh that was funny.
In 2005, I lost a friend who was like a big brother to me. I graduated with my masters degree. A group of us went to Mexico in the summer, and most of us survived. 2 of them got sick enough to probably never visit Mexico again! I went to Library Camp and met a great group of people that I still meet with. Sarah met Bryan. We went to NYC to try to see the Today Show. We did (almost) 24 hours of my birthday with LOTS of food. The Rent movie premiered. My camp friend Marian was in DC the same day I went to Kristina & Zach's wedding in DC. The rest of my camp friends came to visit my house.
In 2006, I met Mike. I lived at my parents for the summer and worked at my old summer job just because I had nothing else going on and it paid well. I went on my first cruise - to the Caribbean. Turned out Viraj WOULD visit Mexico again. :) My parents put their Maryland house on the market. We had season tickets to the Hippodrome for the first time and saw some of what are still my favorite shows.
In 2007, my parents sold the house and moved to Arizona. I inherited Sneakers from my parents, making it a two-cat household. I finished my National Boards work, mailed my box, took my test, and was sick for 2 days straight. We got engaged! I saw Rent on Broadway with Adam and Anthony twice in one month.
In 2008, we got married. We went on a fantastic honeymoon to Europe (and Africa and Asia!) In the spring we went on an awesome trip to London and Paris with Patti. The house started falling apart and we had to buy a heat pump. We took a trip to AZ for Christmas and dubbed it "The Eating tour of Tucson."
In 2009, the house continued to fall apart and we decided to sell it - after fixing a ton of stuff. We did, quickly. Then we moved into what we quaintly call, "The Smoking Den." We went to Hawaii! We went to WDW for a weekend. We saw my mother more times than we did when she lived here. We returned to AZ for "The eating tour, Part II."
