At 6am my phone rings. It's Sean. He and Scott have been driving around Dearborn the whole night, getting drunk. I guess they snuck into the back entrance of the Ford-Wyoming drive-in and had been "watching movies until now", but 1) I don't think they show movies past 2am, and 2) I find it hard to believe they snuck a white extended-cab van into ( Read more... )

no mistake in my world. Responsibilities are important...you can't ignore them and use dumb "we're getting older" excuses...least I can't. You're not "getting older" your already past the age where you can say "we won't be able to do this much longer..." I still have fun...I just have fun when it's appropriate not when it's gonna jeopardize my job or anything else I need to pay the bills. I get sick of trying to exist here to there...i'm ready for some sort of stability and comfort...security of some sort. Seriously I hardly think you missed anything in Houghton Lake...besides your friends getting more drunk. Try a road trip on a saturday when you can enjoy yourself b/c you won't be freaking out about not getting work done. Doesn't sound like those folks would've had much to worry about which is part of the problem and why you made a good decision. The only friends I have that do things like that are the ones that don't have good jobs to lose...nor do they have the discipline and ability to sacrifice like we learned to in school ( ... )

Thanks for taking an opinion to one side...it seems often peeps you see on the internet who are willing to support any choice one may make ("dude, you gotta take a break sometimes"/"Kudos for choosing to take care of your responsibilities, go you!!").

I did tell Sean if this was saturday and noon, we'd already be on our way. He actually does have a degree and a decent job...he is a substitute english teacher in the Dearborn school district. But being a sub-teacher he has more flexibility with his schedule than most.

It probably would have been a fun trip, though making up my work would have been poking me from the back of my head all day, thereby tainting the experience some.

"Stability and comfort"?!?!? You're the one who has a steady job! It may not be 100% comfortable, but at least that steady paycheck can buy some consumer pacification!

Back to work...
