Cade grit his teeth, hand tightening on Chalbys, watching the electric shimmer of a poly-sensory holo vanishing. He was already handicapped, the appearance of crimson blade-wings having given Belial the advantage of height and speed while Cade called nothing more than his sword until he had little other choice. Most would have been disarmed by the child-like body even then, but nothing short of a complete system malfunction would have allowed Cade to believe only what human perception told him.
Not a child now, though, but the form of an adult male, hair still long but laced with the crackles of pulse energy drawn from the alt-dimension, armor plates sliding over artificial skin like sheets of blood; the metallic hiss of four more blade wings unsheathing breaking through the sounds of the pier slowly collapsing.
Belial was prone to gloating, his own pride a perversion of base programming that was common to those whose AI had warped when Lucifer went rogue. For a split second, Cade expected that, thinking he'd had a moment to rest --
-- A blade seemingly made of fire crashed into Chalbys's automatic guard and sent Cade flying. A beat of his own tarnished blade-wings slowed his momentum, but impacting with what remained of the pier still jarred him for a moment.
A moment that should have been fatal, but as Belial angled his weapon to strike, something collided with his back and exploded. Fire engulfed the rogue Elohim unit and just as quickly dispersed as Belial turned to look at the cause of the intrusion. Cade's stomach dropped as he followed the opponent's gaze right to the short lilin woman who had just rolled to a stop after having launched and jumped from what would have been Cade's motorcycle.
