This will be a post of short bits that haven't made it into any longer post, and probably won't. Politics is right out for this post, with a politics random thoughts later if I feel motivated. No spoilers will occur during this post.
Friday was a rough day at work. Three people in my department were "let go for performance reasons". That had a bit of a ripple effect through the department (it had about 20 people). Since the department is currently hiring more people, I have no reason to think that this is a move towards a layoff. One of the guys in the office was supposed to get me contact info for those let go, but has dropped the ball. That vexes me greatly.
I saw Watchmen on Imax on Saturday. I enjoyed it, but I could have done without the giant blue penis showing up on the screen (though, admittedly, it was there for character reasons like it is in the comic). I'd say that overall the cuts that were made to fit it into a 2.5 hour movie were good. Alan Moore is officially a whiner as it's unlikely that a better film adaptation could have been made.
After Watchmen, we went to
Gyu-Kaku and ordered one of their all the meat you can eat deals. It was quite tasty, but rather pricey to do often.
projecttracker and I had most of a bottle of sake since we weren't driving. Neither of us knows much about sake, so we got a middle of the road bottle and enjoyed it. Anyone out there have advice on sake?
Also on Saturday, we played several LAN games of Dawn of War II against the AI. That was fun, especially the one where we managed to pull victory from the jaws of defeat. Solo skirmishes, however, are annoying if you have AI allies. They really like to ping the map repeatedly at the same objective. That gets old fast. Both the LAN action and the single player campaign are good, though. Steam still sucks.
I played Rock Band a couple of weeks ago at
projecttracker's place. It was fun, but it also demonstrated that I have no singing voice. Words of wisdom: calibrate before you play - a slight error in synchronization makes the game very frustrating.
Left 4 Dead is a great game. Each of its 5 campaigns is designed to be a single zombie movie. The levels are static, but the placement of enemies is randomized. Plus, zombie hordes attack you at random intervals (perhaps because you are still for too long, among other things).
I'm one episode behind on BSG since they moved to an 8 day time delay for webcast episodes. I'm really looking forward to seeing the ending.
I've been keeping up with the Sarah Connor Chronicles on and off - I got caught up last weekend. The show is essentially a continuation from the endpoint of T2. Overall the show is good, but I think they need to concentrate more on the bigger story arc and less on the episodic content. The latest episode (219) is one of my favorites. I really like Brian Austin Green as Derek - he was well cast.
