The Sanctuary is almost always deserted in the early mornings, so it makes for an ideal meeting place when one is in search of neutral territory. Or at least, territory that doesn't have an annoyed fiance looking for an excuse to disintegrate the person one is meeting. Jeff arrives early despite the ungodly hour, and spends the extra time bustling ( Read more... )

To say that Soze has been adjusting nicely to his home world would be a lie. He's adjusting, sure. He's getting by. In the day, he moves mechanically through his business at whatever cost, just like the old days. At night, he dreams of the PINpoint tone vibrating inside his skull. Failures. This life is not your own. This life is his.

Jeff's.

Jeff is who he's here to see today. He arrives on time (as usual) and just outside the sanctuary doors. When he enters, Jeff might notice that he looks tired. Then again, he's been tired for ages now. But still, his eyes light up when he sees him.

"Keyser!" Jeff's own eyes are a mirror of Keyser's, and he ducks back into the kitchen with a grin and a wave. When he emerges again, it's with two plates, steaming hot and smelling of eggs and bacon. He sets one in front of an empty seat (eggs over-easy, just how he likes them), and digs into the other with obvious relish. He pauses only when the coffee is ready to pour a cup for both of them.

"Sorry, I only just got your message a few days ago, and Eiko wouldn't let us out of quarantine until she was sure we were all safe." He pauses to roll down his sleeves, and Keyser may notice a new scar on the inside of his right arm, still red and scabbed over. "I'd say you wouldn't believe the last few days I've had, but considering where we are..." He lets the sentence trail off unfinished, quirking one side of his mouth in a sardonic smile.

Soze mirrors his smile. Yeah, he knows what Jeff means. Not because of any special psychic connection, of course, but because the Nexus is fucked up beyond belief. For all his misery now, he knows that at least he's safe from this hell. Most of the time.

"Is it anything you want to talk about?" he asks, cutting into his own eggs. In contrast to Jeff, he moves like a man who has all the time in the world (or maybe a man who still wonders how safe the food is out here).

"PINpoint malfunction," he explains between mouthfuls of food. "Eiko was testing out a new model, and something went wrong. Everyone in the Sanctuary with a PINpoint got transported to some kind of...I don't know...slasher movie dimension. Some kind of dumping ground for the serial killers you see in all those bad movies. We barely got out with our skin intact. I was lucky. I just got a bad cut on my arm and a few bruises, but Gabriel--uh, not the one that kidnapped me, the other one--he broke his arm. I thought I was only gone a couple of days but uh...it ended up being a month in the Nexus."
