that was a surprising coherent and well-supported rant, and i agreed with everything you said. well, except for the "russia is our ally" thing since we're only just barely allies. but yeah, smart stuff

Meh, yeah, the Russia as an ally thing is a bit hazy (it was 5AM, gimme a break :P). However, without going into great detail about US foreign policy concerning Russia, both of our governments are more ally than enemy right now, and unless Russia is going to start tossing nukes around, we'll probably stay this way for quite some time.

saying that we're more ally than enemy with russia is like saying that china has a more capitalist market than america: it might be true, but to the uneducated, the implications of that can mark you as a heretic

The main thing with abortion is that whether or not you outlaw it, it's going to happen anyway. If it is oulawed, however, abortion will happen illegally (see: coat hangers). Since it is far more dangerous for a woman to get an illegal abortion than a legal one, Roe v. Wade must be upheld. It's sort of the same argument as drug legalization..whether or not drugs are legal, people will still do them just as much. But with legalized drugs, they are less likely to be tainted (i.e. you buy a bag of cocaine that a shady dealer laced with another drug, producing threatening if not deadly results). They would be sold in stores, like cigarettes. While they're obviously bad for you, there's nothing we can really do to stop people from using them. Outlawing drugs doesn't work.
