More on the Debug Hug-important for those who upload lots

We have been doing a lot of talking over at Leefish and from what Boiling Oil says this Hug is more insidious and widespread than people realize ( Read more... )

Augh. I was planning on doing a lot dump for everyone's Christmas... but I have definitely downloaded lots, maybe even since the last time I installed, and I am fairly certain I will never install a social mod. (There's never been any evidence in my game: I still haven't checked your beach house, by the way, but I'll be doing that soonish.)

Well Mootilda is looking into this now which makes me feel better knowing that someone who knows what they are doing is on the case.
We are starting to suspect there are two forms of this thing. The first mod that caused this a couple of years ago was based on an object, and in Dolphin's thread she said she fixed her own mod by changing the fall back guid. Mootilda has looked at the extended family mod and it's a bunch of BVAH's. Even Bo is starting to think there might be two versions. Man I opened a can of worms.

I'm going to look into AGS to see if that might be away of uploading clean lots.

Damn, ACR counts, doesn't it? Plus, I'm pretty sure I have a lot of Pescado stupid OFB lot behavior nukers... time to install a fix under "vital hacks do not move."

(I'm like 90% sure that I don't have the bug this install, if I ever did, but then again I've never removed ACR, since you can turn it off on a lot-by-lot basis.)

Can of worms? It's not you, Jo, it's the fault of the Maxians who put the worms in the can in the first place!

Holy Moly, this was informative! I never realized that ACR counted as a "social mod" (shows how little I understand of modding, eh?). I guess I need one of these in place!

I decided to pick "No Sim Loaded" since I know that boilingOil is a known modder.

I'm just confused over whether I want my sims to save their gossip or not? Doesn't it make game play "better" because they can talk about things? I have to think about it... :S

But wowwowowow. Thank you so much for posting this. This is so extremely important, because I too upload lots. I should really get a mod in place to prevent this from happening to others!

Well I think I have the harder to remove version which has changed the BVAH's. Mootilda has been trying to explain it, but it's all rather above my head. I think most people who get the hug get the easier to fix kind, based on an object not BVHA's. The fix should deal with it. I only discovered I had this because someone with a fresh game and no cc used one of my lots. That's the test ( ... )

Ok, can you explain to me what this Hug thing is? This is the first time I've heard of it and I have no idea what it does or if it's in my game (though I've gone ahead and downloaded the control sim, as it seems a better replacement to Morola's Mirror).

Seems like LJ maintenance ate my reply.

here is the link to the MTS thread. http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=508487

I think the mod should protect your game from the object version of the hug, but there seems to be debate over the BHAV's version. I don't think that is as common though.

Hi Jo!

I've joined LJ now, though I haven't really done anything with it yet. (I wanted to offer the Veronaville townies I extracted to Maranatah, but she hasn't replied yet.)

I'm a bit paranoid about this Super Debug Hug to the extent that the only lots I've ever downloaded are mootilda's. Can you say whether what you said in your first post about the 3 fixes is still largely true, or if subsequent discoveries have changed things. I've had Dolphin's Control This Sim for ages now (on your recommendation!) Since installing it, I've never played any of my main 'hoods without it, so I'm hoping that this will have protected me from getting the dreaded Hug. I have however played my test 'hood without it, as I always play it with fewer hacks. On reading this, and the linked thread on MTS, I think I should keep Control This Sim in place when playing my test 'hood too.

I wasn't keen on either of the other 2 fixes, because the full version of No Sim Loaded removes a lot of stuff that I'd rather keep (though I believe Boiling Oil might make ( ... )

Hi Andrew. Thanks for the PM, I might not have noticed your post otherwise ( ... )

Hi Jo!

Do you think I'd be ok with plasticbox's Newbie Road tiny lots? Since he/she (I'm not sure which!) is active again on MTS -- and is now a mod!, I reckon his/her stuff ought to be ok. I think, when I first thought about downloading those lots, they were marked as unsupported because he/she hadn't logged on for so long. I'm hoping that his/her lots are almost as safe as mootilda's. I know you're playing plasticbox's Elsewhere, so you must be fairly confident in him/her.

Those tiny houses would be very useful in my island 'hood where space is at a premium, and I wouldn't have to build a new house, every time a new Sim moved to the island or a townie wanted to become playable.

Did you put in No Sim Loaded? If you have a clean game and you put on NSL, you never have to worry about the SH. If you put on a lot that contains the SH, No Sim Loaded will stop it ever surfacing. It can't manifest so long as NSL is there in your Download folder. Even if you put on dozens on infected lots and pull multiple mods. I highly doubt anything by Plasticbox would contain the SH, but it isn't something you have to worry over.
