I'm having an awesome weekend so far: yesterday they extended me at work for two weeks, which gives me three weeks (instead of one) to find a job; I saw
The Savages last night with Shay and despite the fact that no amount of the very excellent humour embedded in the movie could overcome the fundamentally depressing subject matter, and despite the fact that my grandfather has dementia very similar to that of the father in the movie so it struck a bit closer to home than I'd been expecting, I still had a grand time, in part because Shay is a riot to hang out with and in part because Philip Seymour Hoffman is my boyfriend; after the movie we went to a party at the house of a very nice total stranger who is apparently one of Alan's classmates and whose birthday it was, and I had a chance to chat with Alex, who I don't know very well but would like to know better as she strikes me as very acute; I left Shay at the party to go to Mike's and watch
Jesus Christ Superstar (the 2000 musical) which is easily the most homoerotic movie I've ever watched (and I say this as somebody who has watched gay porn).

The damn novel (hereinafter referred to as Fuck You I'm A Genius) is not nearly as broken as I'd thought and I'm getting excited about working on it again, to the extent that I did revision on the stationary bicycle at the gym instead of reading or watching America's Next Top Model like I usually do. I'm still completely puzzled about what to do about one of the three points of view characters, though - he has a smaller part than the other two, but he's still pretty crucial, and I worry it'll be unbalanced if I let him just drop out of sight for the second third of the book, which is what he's doing right now.

As part of 2007's New Year's Resolution to engage in a self-directed study of femininity in America (the purpose of which is to help me be a bit less clueless about things like make-up and fashion, since I was sick the day they took the girls aside in junior high and taught them the secrets of this stuff), I've been reading
I Am Fashion. They had a
whole entry on Miu Miu, and I fell in love with their clothing based largely on this picture:
Yes, that is Kirsten Dunst. I really like her anyway, so I'm somewhat biased already, but I really love the whole range of photos in their
campaign, and I want this dress even though I don't have the gams for it:
