I can't stop reading about boingboinggate.

Which dispute, between VB and BB, or between BB and its readers? It's the latter dispute that has me spellbound.

Heh, now that I did some reading, I agree with you.

As I understand it, they didn't remove stuff that VB wrote, they removed their own work linking to or pointing to her blog, right?

If they'd actually removed her work, that'd be a bit more, "Uh, guys, I thought you were anti-censorship", but I basically support my own right to say, go back and delete a LJ post from a year ago.

It's not really a censorship issue if you delete your own work, is it?

But yeah, sure are a lot of people weighing in on this, eh?

I'm reading conflicting stories. Their position is they only removed links to her work, but she (and some of the commenters) are saying they also removed actual posts of hers, and apparently they also removed any post which referenced her (even if it was just as a "via" link).

I think it's an issue because they're making it look as though they never linked to her to begin with, which is certainly their right, but goes against their past advocating for complete transparency (strikethroughs for edits, that kind of thing).

Yeah, it's interesting.

Think there's any chance it has to do with Violet Blue (author/blogger) suing Violet Blue (porn star) over trademark infringement?

Where the boingboing crew, on the issue of IP, makes me look like an RIAA lobbyist, that's the only thing I can think of that's possibly a bone of contention?

Some people are speculating that's the reason they removed her posts/links to her posts. No confirmation on anything from any of the principles.
