POW! POW! SCREEK! I' m trying to learn how to convert TS3 Maxis objects for TS2! I got a bit confused, though. I really hope someone can help me out... Here's what I did, basically:
  • I cloned a TS2 base game chair (the Simple Seat one). There's no actual reason why I chose that one. I know it's probably not correct, but I thought any basa game chair ( Read more... )

I know some people have been having issues getting GUIDs but I don't know how to fix that.

You shouldn't have to re map it. Instead of deleting the TS2 mesh and adding the TS3 one to the GMDC, you want to replace the TS2 chair with the TS3 one. It's an option you get when you click import. Click the drop down box, click replace and select the mesh name.

You probably broke the Shape/TXMT link which is why the texture isn't showing up.

Oh, thank you so much! I actually tried importing + replacing in SimPE, but the TS2 chair I used as "base" would still show up with the actual converted chair, even though I deleted it before I exported the mesh. I just tried again though and it looks just fine. :)
Also, the TS3 texture has to be the same size of the TS2 one I'm replacing, right?

It doesn't matter about the texture. The bigger the texture the better the details but also the bigger the file.

If you are replacing properly the original mesh shouldn't show up. When you exported from Milkshape did you make sure you deleted the original mesh first?

Okay! Hmmm, I thought I did, but I probably messed up something. It shows up properly now. :) One more question about textures: most Maxis chairs have 2 textures you have to replace (one for the sit and one for the "frame") if you want to recolor the mesh. I don't need those for my new mesh, right? The texture for the TS3 chair is one big file. Do I just need to replace one of the original textures with the new one and delete the rest? I'm so sorry to bother you with my noob-questions... :(

EDIT: I cloned a chair that only has one texture and just replaced it with the TS3 one (build DXT) and... it worked! Thank you so much for your help. :)

This is very unrelated to your post but I just noticed that you were listening to Kimbra and I had to say how much I love her.
