So on the 19th dec Dave had his motorbike stolen - and we thought that was gonna be the last we heard on the suject - he wasnt insured for theft so we knew we were gonna be down money wise and seeing as he used his bike to go into work on sats for overtime there was more money lost

That sounds like the sort of thing the garage would do if the bike was "recovered" there because it was illegally parked. I suggest double check with the copper involved to see that the paperwork was filled in correctly when they took it to the garage and the garage has it on record that it wasn't illegally parked that it was your recovered property.

If that isnt the case then that sucks big fat and meaty and I would be raising hell at that police station with comments about going to the local newspapers with a story about a victim of crime being made to pay for their own property back.
